2000 - WEEK 4 Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-25/2749 From: Glenys Lowery Subject: The Maze - OT Hi All You happy People :-) Here's a little story someone sent me. Enjoy. Love Glenys ------------------------- One morning, a young man came to the Master saying, "Master, I wish to understand my path on earth better. I wish to know why it is that I seem to carry my past and re-live it again and again. Why is it that I cannot get past my past?" The Master smiled at the young man who seemed to be earnestness itself. "Go forward into the Maze in the garden. But carry this backpack as you walk the maze. It will help you stay focused and balanced. Be careful as it is quite heavy though," the Master said. The young man took the backpack from the Master who handed it over quite easily. But when the young man had it firmly in his grasp he was astonished at how heavy it really was! Placing the shoulder straps over his arms and bent over from the sheer weight of the pack, he strode towards the Maze. He was surprised to see it was not a garden maze, but was built of silk panels that were nearly translucent. The young man paused before entering the maze and then stood and walked into it. Immediately he found himself facing a solid wall of silk. However, he could see just enough through the silk to other areas of the maze to make out others there at the same time. He could "see" them and hear them but they were not part of his path. The weight upon his shoulders reminded him of why he was there, so he put the thoughts of the others out of his head. Walking forward, he found himself hopelessly trapped. It seemed that no matter which direction he walked, there was no way to proceed forward. Baffled the young man sat down and pondered his situation. 'The Master told me to walk the maze but it seems unwalk-able. Yet, there are others here who are obviously ahead of me. They must have figured out a way to get through this section. How did they do that? Are they smarter than I am? Did they cheat? Did they crawl under the silk, as that would be really a simple matter and who would ever know?' The young man weighed his options and then rose, deciding to not sneak under the silk. As he stood and turned, an opening appeared before him as though by magic and he moved forward. Soon, he faced another series of solid silk panels and could see no opening or direction to walk other than the one he had come from. Again he sat down and thought of his situation. He had gotten through the first test he felt, by reflecting upon his options and then choosing to take the one that was for his highest good. Stating again his affirmation that he would desire to walk the maze only with positive intent he stood, ready to face his opening. But none was there. He still faced a blank series of panels. The young man was baffled. He had felt that surely he would be rewarded as before for his desire to proceed only within his highest good. The weight of his backpack cut into his shoulders, bringing him sharply back to reality. What was it that weighed so much? What had the Master placed in it to weigh it down? Rocks? Bricks? It did not feel hard and unforgiving like those items, it felt soft yet heavy. What could possibly be soft and yielding yet heavy enough to weigh him down like this? Pulling the backpack off of his shoulders, he opened it and peaked inside. 'The Master did not tell to not look,' he reasoned. It was EMPTY! Yet it had weight! 'How could this be', he wondered. Picking it back up, he again felt how heavy it was yet it was empty! Again he glanced inside and this time felt with his hands. Empty! But the weight!!! Placing it upon his shoulders he stood. He asked himself what it was that he had just learned from this experience. He heard a voice clearly say, 'Look inside of you, young man, for the weight lies there,' he was told. As he walked he looked at his life and his path. He thought of his childhood and the friends and enemies who had caused him harm. He thought of how stuck he had been by their feelings of him, their attitudes towards him. He remembered how angry he was with one particular boy who had taunted him unmercifully. This boy was hated to this day by the young man. The pack became even heavier as the student re-created and re-lived the experience within his mind and heart. 'Ahhhh. I understand now. I carry the weight of that which burdens me. I am the weight! I therefore have it within me to unburden myself as well.' The student was joyous with this insight and then saw and walked his way through a series of panels of silk. He thought of how he could unburden the weight of those he still despised and resented for their treatment of him. He knew that they were not there with him in the maze so he could not expect them to say, 'I am sorry" and thus lessen the weight and allow him to go forward easily. "I forgive you, wherever you are,' he found himself saying to his own amazement. The weight of the pack lessened immediately and he was able to walk without bending forward at the waist. 'Ah ha!' the young one exclaimed. 'Through my intent to forgive, I unburden myself of this weight which hinders my journey. But how can this be? For they were the ones who wronged me. Yet my forgiving of them unweights me?' The young one's head swum with the implications. And another series of openings appeared before him in the panels of silk. His pack was considerably lighter, but still weighed enough for his mind to stay focused upon it. 'Oh, Great Spirit, I ask you to help me see what it is that you are showing me here. How do I make my way through this maze? How do I release myself of the full weight that I carry with me?' It was at that moment that a beam of sunlight hit him squarely in the face, warming him. He suddenly realized that his pack had lightened again with the warmth of the sun! 'What does this mean, God? Why do you lighten my pack with sunlight? What are you showing me?' It was then that he found himself re-membering a "woman" that he had kissed when he was thirteen. It was his first kiss of adulthood and he remembered her clearly. His heart raced with the remembrance of her taste upon his lips and his love for her. His pack lightened considerably this time. 'Thank you God for your considerable wisdom in this. I see now how I am to unburden myself completely. It is through my loving AND forgiving those who have been in my way and have wronged me previously. It is not their wronging of me that has hindered me. It is my holding on to that wronging that has stopped me. By seeing myself as one who has been wronged, I could not go forward in the maze. And by seeing myself as one who was without love, I could not lessen the weight of the pack. As I forgive and bring love within me, I make my journey easier.' The young man felt his heart swell in size as he felt these insights. He felt his heart race with joy, as it knew its lesson to him was being heard. The pack weighed nothing now and the young man took it off and held it lightly in his hands. He stood before a solid silk wall now and could see neither an opening nor his way to where he had just come from. He was surrounded by solid silk! However, instead of panicking, he sat and breathed in this mantra: "I Am the light and the Way. I carry within me all manner of healing and knowing. It is through this healing and knowing that I make my way through this earthly maze. I am able to carry forth of the journey through this maze and I am able to release my entrapment. I alone have the ability to solve this riddle and I ask now to have it done. I breathe in full acceptance of my path and its possibilities, God. I recognize that I was the impediment, not anyone or anything else. I am LIGHT and I am LOVE. Thus being so FREES me and allows me to soar above the physical realm. In this I re-discover myself which is my True Self, God. Thank you for helping me to see this. I so love you." At this, the young man felt his feet rise slightly above the earth! He floated above the silk panels and could clearly see the others stuck within the maze. Their darknesses were carried around in their own packs and held them stuck. His head swum with the implications of what was happening to him at that moment. But he focused not on that, but on the fact that he was flying! He was soaring! He was above the earth in his lightness! He was outside of the Maze! Spying the ground around the maze, he thought of being there and staying outside of the maze. And at once, he was. By thinking it and seeing it, it became. The Master was at his side as he touched down. "Master, thank you for placing my weight so severely upon my shoulders as you did. Were it not so heavy, I would have gladly carried it longer and longer for it would have not hindered me all that much. But as it weighed me down so greatly, I had to get rid of the weight first before I could do anything else." "How did you free yourself of your weight, my son?" the Master asked. His face was alight with joy and love as he did so. " I found myself forgiving those who had wronged me, Master. It was my pain in response to their actions that made me hold on to the pain inside of myself. When I let it go, Master, I watched it soar away from me and felt myself growing lighter." The student's face shone with love as he spoke. "Ah," said the Master. "And what of the maze itself? "That is impossible to walk through. There is no way out." "Oh, Master. The most beautiful thing happened. I began to fly after losing the weight. I saw myself as light and love itself as I found it within me to forgive and forget those that had harmed me, had wronged me. It was my darkness that had caused my weight and it was my lightness that freed me to fly. By BEING light and love, I floated, Master and found myself outside of the maze. I was freed from its confines; above its entrapments. Master, I see now that I cause my own weight, that hold me down. That I keep me trapped in my past. That I, alone, am responsible for the manner in which I walk this maze. By releasing those entrapping thoughts, those weighting down feelings and allowing me to feel love and light, I soared above it all. Did I do wrong by getting out of the maze in this way, Master?" The young man was earnestness itself as he awaited the Master's answer. "What do YOU feel, young one?" the Master answered with a smile. "Do YOU feel freed from the Maze?" With that, the Master strode away before hearing the young one's reply. He knew that whatever the young one answered would give him further insight as to his own journey. And this is as it should be. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Monks and scholars should accept my word not out of respect, but upon analysing it as a goldsmith analyses gold, through cutting, melting, scraping and rubbing it. - Buddha Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-25/2750 From: Glenys Lowery Subject: Job Vacancy - OT And if the maze didn't work, this might bring a smile to your dial: Pastoral Search Committee Report In our search for a suitable pastor, the following scratch sheet was developed for your perusal. Of the candidates investigated by the committee, only one was found to have the necessary qualities. The list contains the names of the candidates and comments on each, should you be interested in investigating them further for future pastoral placements. NOAH: He has 120 years of preaching experience, but no converts. MOSES: He stutters; and his former congregation says he loses his temper over trivial things. ABRAHAM: He took off to Egypt during hard times. We heard that he got into trouble with the authorities and then tried to lie his way out. DAVID: He is an unacceptable moral character. He might have been considered for minister of music had he not 'fallen.' SOLOMON: He has a reputation for wisdom but fails to practice what he preaches. ELIJAH: He proved to be inconsistent, and is known to fold under pressure. HOSEA: His family life is in a shambles. Divorced, and remarried to a prostitute. JEREMIAH: He is too emotional, alarmist; some say a real 'pain in the neck.' AMOS: Comes from a farming background. Better off picking figs. JOHN: He says he is a Baptist but lacks tact and dresses like a hippie. Would not feel comfortable at a church potluck supper. PETER: Has a bad temper, and was heard to have even denied Christ publicly. PAUL: We found him to lack tact. He is too harsh, His appearance is contemptible, and he preaches far too long. TIMOTHY: He has potential, but is much too young for the position. JESUS: He tends to offend church members with his preaching, especially Bible scholars. He is also too controversial. He even offended the search committee with his pointed questions. JUDAS: He seemed to be very practical, co-operative, good with money, cares for the poor, and dresses well. We all agreed that he is just the man we are looking for to fill the vacancy as our Senior Pastor. Thank you for all you have done in assisting us with our pastoral search. (today I fell on this in Bailey, my favorite scotch whisky label) Anyway I am sending light today, and I wil have the song sung. I'm hearing didgeridoo when I sing Aum :) Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-25/2753 From: Tracey Hobson Subject: Re: Principles of Achievement JJ, I really enjoyed and appreciate your posting on goal setting. You inspired me to write down two goals. I have read essentially the same thing from other sources, but needed another nudge to actually do it! I have a few questions, though. You wrote: "Finances is probably the greatest problem the spiritual workers of the world have today. Jesus said that man cannot serve both God and mammon, yet we must serve mammon in this age to some degree just to survive." "As we move into the Age of Aquarius disciples will learn to balance the two through the viewing and application of money in a spiritual sense. The Purpose of God and money must be blended with great wisdom." First off, and this MAY have been covered when we discussed Jesus' third temptation, why does it say "Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you" if this is not really the case? I'm sure I am not alone when I have said "God, I'm sure I could be more useful to you if I didn't spend so much energy worrying about money." One would think that it would be the spiritual workers of the world, those who are willing and able to do God's work, that would be among the FIRST to be blessed, and blessed in every way. Sometimes I think I must be this awful person who only wants to delude herself that she is one of God's blessed children and a "light worker" and that is why I have such difficulty financially. Or is it a karma thing? (And I'm not writing this so everyone will go "oh, poor Tracey" - these are real questions I have.) I mean, I thought I had a spiritual view of money as energy... maybe not? I'll go one step further. When LeLona was here, I drove her through my neighborhood. Lots of cute little Victorians and Victorian-wanna-be's. This new house down the street from me sold recently for over $900K! And I thought it was very poorly laid out; it had only 3 bedrooms and virtually no back yard. The little foundation-less rental I live in could get half a million overnight (thank you, God, that my landlord does not need the money and has no desire to sell!). I almost feel like I have no prayer, literally, of ever owning my own home. Yes, I do see the up-side, and that is that I am more dependent upon God and try harder to develop a relationship with God that works, than I would if I had everything my little heart desires. I used to feel like everything happens for a reason, but I seem to have lost that somewhere along the way... Glad to be back on-line! Tracey Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-25/2754 From: J J Dewey Subject: From the Old to the New 2 Note: I sent this and another post this morning and it seems to have got lost in the ethers so I am sending it again. If there are two postings of the same thing you will know why. As we move from one age to another both sides of the spiritual spectrum are tempted, and usually succumb, to the line of least resistance which is the energies of the old age rather than the new. In relation to this Glenys made and interesting and honest statement: "Even so, I have still managed to think about JJ's question a little. I have to admit to looking at the two lists for Pisces and Aquarius and thinking that if I had to choose, the Pisces list was more attractive. That told me that I was either still locked into Piscean energy a little or didn't really understand the energies of Aquarius." Actually the answer for most of us is a little of both. The energies of the old age pull strong at us as if they are in a life and death struggle for our attention, and the energies of the new age seem to be the evil rather than the good for many because they are not seen in the light of day. Let us take a look at the introduction of the energies of Pisces through Jesus and the early Christians. Did the world accept the idea of personal sacrifice for something higher than self? No. They wanted to continue to sacrifice animals, objects and things other than self and ego. Did they accept the idea of love manifest through sacrifice? No. To the people if that time love was the idea of possession and if the woman loved her husband she became a useful possession. If you loved God you became an obedient possession for God and sacrificed anything but self for Him. Did the people accept the ideal that man can become a perfect Son of God? No. To the Romans that was blasphemous to Caesar and to the religious leaders of the time this idea was blasphemy to god himself. Now remember that Jesus did not come at the very beginning of Pisces, but after the shift in inner energies had already occurred and still the people resisted. Over 99 per cent of the people wanted to keep attention focused on the Age of Aries and persecuted and threw to the lions those who represented the New Age of that time. Now that the Age of Pisces is passing do we drop the lessons learned of sacrifice, love and idealism? No. Instead we take the lessons learned from that age and incorporate the best of them into our psyche, but we shift our attention to the new energies. If we correctly shift our attention then the energies of the old age will manifest correctly and naturally without our even thinking about it. But if we try to keep our main focus of attention on the old energies we will find that there will appear a resistance to the soul, and the true energies of sacrifice, love and idealism will become corrupted, just as the old energies did with the Romans and religious leaders when they corrupted the good from Aries as they resisted Pisces. The new energies of Aquarius are: Service - the Prime key word Law Business Now service probably sounds acceptable to most of you, but law and business probably sounds suspect, but trust me on this. When we are finished talking about these many of you will receive soul confirmation. We haven't received many comments so far, but Glenys gave a good one: "This was a little hard to swallow for me at first. I work as a Regulatory Affairs Manager for a professional organization and deal with the law every day. In fact, I administer a small segment of it for the entire country. So I see more than most how we are strong on Law and weak on Justice in Western countries and the fact that the Law protects the criminal is a common topic of conversation amongst my colleagues and I. "However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the Law had become like that because the primary principles on which it was founded had either been forgotten or in more recent times, never known. An example of the first, is the fact that very often justice has given way to expediency or spurious notions of civil liberties. I think also there are bigger laws that have never been accepted by mankind and if they had they would have become enshrined in our civil and criminal law. I'm talking about cosmic, universal and planetary laws. I think that these Laws, such as the Law of Love, the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Karma, the Law of Free Will etc will be accepted by Society during the Age of Aquarius and they will be reflected in our human laws which will be the better for it (As Above, So Below). "So I'm beginning to see how Service, Law and Business can work together to create a better Society, with each component being a reflection of the other and the whole being so much more than the sum of the parts. I'm also beginning to see how 'worldly' endeavors such as Business and the Law are spiritual activities if practiced with the right attitude. In fact, anything that lifts mankind up to live a better life is spiritual and any attempt to think otherwise amounts to limited thinking." Let us start with examining service as it applies to Aquarius first. Now service has always been an item in the spiritual teachings of the race, but the difference in Aquarius is that the major emphasis of all the new teachings will circle around it whereas in past ages the word service circled around something else. In the age of Taurus the idea of service was to one of many gods, one of many tribes or families. In the age of Aries service was toward the One God, the one king or the one religion. Then in the Age of Pisces the idea was service through sacrifice with no material reward. The only thing you got from it was the Love of God and your fellow man. This was exemplified by the teaching of Jesus of "going the extra mile" whether you got anything out of it or not. Question: How is service going to have a different focus of attention in Aquarius than Pisces? Hint: Service in the new age will be seen in the light of the LAW of cause and effect and karma, and BUSINESS is the launching pad of the new vision. Opportunity. My friends. I see that many of you seem to be having more difficulties than usual at this time and this is to be expected because the time has arrived to present to you an opportunity for service. With an opportunity for service also comes an increase of negative force that will try and discourage you from taking the next step. Every week in this forum we present all the material necessary to provide plenty of food for thought to keep a discussion group available for hours. By forming your own local study groups you can then say the Song of the 144,000 with others in your physical presence and receive more energy than saying it alone. When you feel the charge of saying it with a dozen or more then you will never want to retreat from moving forward. I felt compelled to write this to another list that I am on and after reading Xavier's exuberant exhortations, I believe it would be appropriate to to share this with you all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greatest of Greetings and Brightest of Blessings I command on every reader of this message. Tonight I have sensed an influx of Energy coming in from the Great Source like I have never felt before. This energy is available to all who will accept it and put it to use. Insight into many mysteries is now available to those of you who will look within to the Goddess and God that dwells within you. You will be lead to focus and send this energy out to people you may not even know, but be obedient to the voice inside you. You may be directed to use the energy in ways you have never dreamed of or heard of before, but be obedient to that voice inside you. The more energy you send out the more energy will flow through you and great miracles and manifestations will begin to occur. This energy is now starting it's flow and will increase over the next two weeks. I urge you all to start to meditate and fix your mind on your willingness to be a conduit for this energy to flow. You will not be disappointed. Your body may shake as your body gets accustomed to this energy flow. Your mind may wonder what you are to do with this energy, this is when you look inside for guidance for the best and highest use of this energy. It is full of Life and Light and Love, so send it to everyone who may come into your mind. Do not worry, It will not hurt anyone and will not force anything against somebody's will. Send it out with the attitude " For the Good of All and with Harm to None ", and rest assured the Work Will be Done! This is an awesome opportunity for ALL who are willing to be of Service and Give of Themselves to Others by taking this Energy and allowing it to flow. Look Within and decide if your are ready and willing to allow the Energy to Flow. If you want to start working with this Energy it is available to all. I wish to start the flow by sending out this energy to all readers of this message. If you would be a conduit for the flow of this energy and be guided by the Goddess and God then put your receptive hand on the screen, close your eyes and imagine a Full Moon with many bright Stars twinkling in the Sky. You see a Light of many colors begin to increase in size and move in your direction. As it descends your crown Chakra feels like a thousand petals of a lotus opening up in anticipation of the Light Energy. It now enters through your Crown Chakra. What you do with this Energy is now up to you and The Goddess and God within you. Take the Energy and Enjoy. Light, Love and Power One for All and All for One! I felt kind of awkward reading the goal setting post and couldn't make a motivational tape because I don't know anybody, well enough, to use as the other two voices. My very closest male friend, I see once or twice a year. I haven't a clue as to what a female friend is. I don't even have one other person to say the song with, so where am I going to find a dozen. I have lots of good friends here, but some how that's different. I've only seen pictures of a few of you and have never spoken with any, by voice. Hello hello hello, Rick Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-26/2760 From: Samu Karlsson Subject: (OT) The Bridge Hey Folks, :) I don't mean to be distracting the main discussion but here's something I ran across and thought I'd share. Would be interesting to hear some of your thoughts on this one, and actually it is related to service and sacrifice too. Bunches of warm vibes, Samu :) THE BRIDGE Adapted from Friedman's Fables by Edwin H. Friedman There was a woman who had given much thought to what she wanted from life. She had experienced many moods and trials. She had experimented with different ways of living, and she had had her share of both success and failure. At last, she began to see clearly where she wanted to go. Diligently, she searched for the right opportunity. Sometimes she came close, only to be pushed away. Often she applied all her strength and imagination, only to find the path hopelessly blocked. And then at last, it came. But the opportunity would not wait. It would be made available only for a short time. If it were seen that she was not committed, the opportunity would not come again. Eager to arrive, she started on her journey. With each step, she wanted to move faster; with each thought about her goal, her heart beat quicker; with each vision of what lay ahead, she found renewed vigor. Strength that had left her since her early youth returned, and desires, all kinds of desires, reawakened from their long dormant positions. Hurrying along, she came upon a bridge that crossed through the middle of a town. It had been built high enough above a river in order to protect it from the floods of spring. She started across. Then she noticed someone coming from the opposite direction. As they moved closer, it seemed as though the other were coming to greet her. She could see clearly, however, that she did not know this other, who was dressed similarly except for something tied around their waist. When they were within hailing distance, she could see that what the other had about their waist was a rope. It was wrapped around many times and probably, if extended, would reach a length of 30 feet. The other began to uncurl the rope, and just as they were coming close, the stranger said, "Pardon me, would you be so kind as to hold the end a moment?" Surprised by this politely phrased but curious request, she agreed without a thought, reached out, and took it. "Thank you" said the other, who then added "two hands now, and remember, hold tight." Whereupon the other jumped off the bridge. Quickly, the free-falling body hurtled the distance of the rope's length, and from the bridge the woman abruptly felt the pull. Instinctively, she held tight and was almost dragged over the side. She managed to brace herself against the edge, however, and after having caught her breath, looked down at the other dangling close to oblivion. "What are you trying to do?" she yelled. "Just hold tight," said the other. "This is ridiculous," the woman thought and began trying to haul the other in. She could not get the leverage, however. It was as though the weight of the other person and the length of the rope had been carefully calculated in advance so that together they created a counterweight just beyond her strength to bring the other back to safety. "Why did you do this?" the woman called out. "Remember," said the other, "if you let go, I will be lost." "But I cannot pull you up," the woman cried. "I am your responsibility," said the other. "Well, I did not ask for it," the woman said. "If you let go, I am lost," repeated the other. She began to look around for help, but there was none. How long would she have to wait? Why did this happen to befall her now, just as she was on the verge of true success? She examined the side, searching for a place to tie the rope. Some protrusion, perhaps, or maybe a hole in the boards. But the railing was unusually uniform in shape; there was no way to get rid of the newfound burden, even temporarily. "What do you want?" she asked the other hanging below. "Just your help," the other answered. "How can I help? I cannot pull you in, and there is no place to tie the rope so that I can go and find someone to help me help you." "I know that. Just hang on; that will be enough. Tie the rope around your waist; it will be easier." Fearing that her arms would not hold out much longer, she tied the rope around her waist. "Why did you do this?" she asked again. "Don't you see what you have done? What possible purpose could you have had in mind?" "Just remember," said the other, "my life is in your hands." What should she do? "If I let go, all my life I will know that I let this other die. If I stay, I risk losing my momentum toward my own long-sought-after salvation. Either way this will haunt me forever." With ironic humor, she thought of jumping off the bridge while still holding on. "That would teach this fool." But she wanted to live and to live life fully. "What a choice I have to make; how shall I ever decide?" As time went by, still no one came. The critical moment of decision was drawing near. To show her commitment to her own goals, she would have to continue on her journey now. It was already almost too late to arrive in time. But what a terrible choice to have to make. A new thought occurred to her. While she could not pull this other up solely by her own efforts, if the other would shorten the rope from her end by curling it around her waist again and again, together they could do it. Actually, the other could do it by herself, so long as she, standing on the bridge, kept it still and steady. "Now listen," she shouted down. "I think I know how to save you." And she explained her plan. But the other wasn't interested. "You mean you won't help? But I told you I cannot pull you up myself, and I don't think I can hang on much longer either." "You must try," the other shouted back in tears. "If you fail, I die." The point of decision arrived. What should she do? "My life or this other's?" And then a new idea. A revelation. So new, in fact, it seemed alien to her traditional way of thinking. "I want you to listen carefully," she said, "because I mean what I am about to say. I will not accept the position of choice for your life, only for my own; the position of choice for your own life I hereby give back to you." "What do you mean?" the other asked, afraid. "I mean, simply, it's up to you. You decide which way this ends. I will become the counterweight. You do the pulling and bring yourself up. I will even tug a little from here." She began unwinding the rope from around her waist and braced herself against the side. "You cannot mean what you say," the other shrieked. "You would not be so selfish. I am your responsibility. What could be so important that you would let someone die? Do not do this to me." She waited a moment. There was no change in the tension of the rope. "I accept your choice," she said at last, and freed her hands. 1. How would you get the person hanging from the rope to take responsibility for herself? 2. How much responsibility does the woman on the bridge have for the other? 3. Why is it so difficult to let go once we are experiencing "rope burn"? 4. What is a higher value, self-sacrifice or achieving your own salvation? 5. Why do the needy often get most needy when others around them are functioning best? 6. Why are the dependent so often calling the shots? 7. If the person on the bridge never got away, could the woman hanging on the rope be accused of murder? 8. How does "The Bridge" get played out in families, schools, religious institutions, health care delivery centers, business organizations, welfare programs? 9. Could both people be the same person? 10. If someone came up to you and said, "Hold the end or I'll jump," what would you do? Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-26/2761 From: J J Dewey Subject: More on Opportunity I go away for a day and you guys really quiet down. Time to wake up and energize... I believe that there are a number of you who could successfully form local study groups. I see Glenys is our first volunteer. And Rick seems willing and it sounds like a group of local physical should would greatly enrich his life. Now I know that many of you wish the group could be together on a physical level, but there is something within our reach which is just as good. No matter where you live there are seekers out there who are looking for knowledge that you have. When you gather a handful of them and meet on a weekly basis you'll have as good a camaraderie as we have here. If that idea doesn't motivate you I don't know what will. The great part is you do not have to be a teaching whiz. All you would have to do is throw out a few of the questions we discuss on this list and you'll have to chase them home. Many will be hungry for more. QUESTION: Sounds good, but how does an amateur like me get started? Start with your friends. Most of us know at least a couple people with a metaphysical bent. Call them and tell them you are going to form a study group and study some new teachings you discovered on the Internet and see if they are interested. If you do not know anyone interested in metaphysics you probably need to get out more, but all is not lost. I am always here to support you with ideas. First, select a place that will accommodate at least a dozen people. There is nothing wrong with starting with a home or apartment. If your place is small it is quite possible that one of your first students will have a large comfortable home that they would be happy to share. There are also some places that may allow you to meet on a free basis. Some libraries have rooms for meetings that are either free or very inexpensive. Also check with your bookstores. Some of them will let you have meetings there in hope of selling your group some books. If you have a little money to work with you could find a meeting room connected with a local Motel, YMCA, New Age Center, Judo Club or some other organization and rent it on a weekly basis. If you do this you will need to collect some dues from members so you will not have to bear the whole burden. Once you get ten people or so the expense will not be much of a burden on any one individual. Once you select a definite meeting place then you must do some promotion. First let's cover the what you can do for free. (1) Many newspapers have sections that are totally free where you can announce on a weekly basis details about any weekly meetings your group may have. Call then up and see what they have available. (2) Local TV and Cable channels also have places for free announcements. Check them out. (3) Hold a press conference. Select a place like a room at the local, library and send an announcement to all the media - Newspaper, TV, radio in your area with an announcement that you are forming a local study group based on the book The Immortal about a guy who just may have met John the Revelator. In a typical area you should be able to send out about 20 announcements and get 2-5 responses. There's a good chance you would get on TV this way. (4) Print up flyers (or we'll print them for you) announcing your project and circulate them in book stores, metaphysical centers, health food stores and so on. We'll work up a master copy for you. (5) Newspapers love doing features that have something to do with the internet. Call the features editor and tell him or her that you have been participating with a study group on the internet and are going to extend it to the local people. Chat a while with this person and he may want to write about you. (6) Now you have exhausted the free methods you should spend a few dollars in regular advertising. Check around and see if there are any metaphysical newsletters in your area and run a small ad there. Then run a small display ad in your local newspaper. In addition to this the classifieds in the local free give-away advertisers are often very effective depending on the area and they are often very inexpensive - sometimes just a couple dollars a week. (7) If you are bold enough to do public speaking let me know and I will give you further advice. You'll need a name for the physical group. May I suggest THE SYNTHESIS GROUP. To synthesize means to gather together various unrelated parts and to put them together into a working whole which wholeness is greater than the sum of the parts. For instance our discussion group is a synthesis of some of the best people on the internet. That's all I have time for tonight, but you will find this to be true. That when your group gets started and you do your part it will take on a life of its own and grow by word of mouth. "If your soul gives you the impression that you are supposed to participate in this please post your feelings and thoughts about it or e-mail me directly. More details are forthcoming." Yes I have felt for while I am to participate in this kind of activity, but because of where I've chosen to be born in this lifetime, the situation's a little different for me I guess, another kind of challenge I'd say :) See, since I am in Finland it would make all sense that the group would be using our language instead of English. I attend some groups that discuss different areas of spirituality, and I often notice that for some Finns, especially folks who are somewhat older than me, English is a stumbling block even if they really are hungry for information and knowledge to feed their souls with. English is not really a problem among younger dudes and dudettes, take Sanna and me for example :) (for myself, always have room for improvement when it comes to languages, but I know I can express myself multiple times clearer and more accurate in my native language conveying all the nuances I feel inside). So, this led me to my next thought: to get the word out and reach more people in the land where I live, I could start by translating part I of the book. After reading it people could either encourage their minds and get the whole book in English, or at least there would be something to get the discussion going on in Finnish, and I could convey more material and subjects to discuss. Now, I have never translated anything of this length before, so I may be creating quite a task for myself, but that's the way I like it :) I have no idea of how much time it would take, but time is what you make it, and I am sure once I organize my days a little better I will find time to do this. I have a feeling there's many people close to where I live who will find the teachings of The Immortal something they've been looking for, for a long time, and I really wanna help in having the Keys be available to as many as possible, because it would really feel wrong knowing there's something this profound that's not been offered to people to contemplate yet, in Finland or anywhere else. I am ready to do my share in spreading the word(s) that will be of utmost importance for *us* in this time :) JJ, let me know what you think. I don't. I feel like healing myself, be more able to do things, sometimes to help others. But above all I want to break free of limiting relationships based on guilt. And I don't feel like showing light to others in a group meeting :) I don't feel able. And I feel too egoist to do that. "Here is the Plan. Those of you who are ready and feel so impressed are to start study groups within your local areas. Every week in this forum we present all the material necessary to provide plenty of food for thought to keep a discussion group available for hours." Yet I have some nice spiritual friends in my area. And we could have a talk about the Keys. So in an informal way, we could start something. My main trouble is that I am not social. (lack of 2s in my name :) And I need freedom above all else. So my way to handle your request JJ is to think about doing it without taking the responsibility to do it, no earth only air. :) Let's say I could have meetings, (they often invite me, and I often refuse :) last time we saw a video and I gave them the book :) But they were only two. Let's say I invite other ones. We could talk about the book. But I don't see myself giving rules to our meeting, this would be only social, with no idea of study or meditation (or worship) of the book. Now there's a point. My friend here (the other one went back to Tampa, Fl) read the book now. Well maybe there's more possibilities to it, without forcing my ego, then I saw at first. "By forming your own local study groups you can then say the Song of the 144,000 with others in your physical presence and receive more energy than saying it alone. When you feel the charge of saying it with a dozen or more then you will never want to retreat from moving forward." I wish to sing the song in group yes. But it has to be with people that wish it too, not that are invited and go with the social group. So I should spread that book among believers :) "If your soul gives you the impression that you are supposed to participate in this please post your feelings and thoughts about it or e-mail me directly. More details are forthcoming." My "soul gives me the impression" that there is a way of light opening before me in that opportunity. I can't bear the "supposed to". I act following the "joyful opportunity, free and light". I have a big excess of fives in my name. Can't stand the "If you don't you lose something", to me it is "you have to", and until now I prefer to die rather then follow that voice :) Almost. When it's soul, I took the step once. First of all, I do not feel that I have enough knowledge to start a study group. There will be people who will ask questions that I do not know how to answer. More importantly (much more) is that one must first KNOW for sure (without any doubts) that what is being taught is the Truth. For myself, I have not yet arrived at that conclusion. Looks like for me, I will have to wait until soul contact is achieved. I prefer to know who (or Who) it is, and with, I am working. I don't suppose the Brotherhood (the Light one) would grant me (or with a group) a tour of one of their Retreats would they? ...I didn't think so. Honestly, I have never understood all the secrecy. JJ, you have stated that in Atlantis, the Brotherhood interacted with incarnate humans much more during that period than at present; that the Brotherhood felt it was a mistake and have decided not to go the same route in this era. IMNSHO (that stands for ...In my not so humble opinion) all the secrecy and mystery They continue to enshroud Themselves in only perpetuates the alienation between the Hierarchy and the masses. It seems to me that They have carried this to the opposite extreme (contact with only a select few - and then only self-proclaimed). There is much deception in the world today. Before I embark on a path of service I WILL KNOW Who it is I am working with (or for). It has been said that this is a selfish attitude to have. That may be true. However I am going with the highest that I know at this point and I realize it may not have much altitude to it. As you have said before, JJ, we plow with the horses we have. JJ also writes: (talking about the 3 key words of the Aquarian Age) "Now service probably sounds acceptable to most of you, but law and business probably sounds suspect..." Business looks pretty shaky to me. "...but trust me on this." You ask much (considering the above statements). I will, however listen to what you have to say. "When we are finished talking about these many of you will receive soul confirmation." I hope I am one of the many who receive this validation. JJ also writes: "Hint: Service in the new age will be seen in the light of the LAW of cause and effect and karma, and BUSINESS is the launching pad of the new vision." I'm all ears. "Opportunity my friends. With an opportunity for service also comes an increase of negative force that will try and discourage you from taking the next step." Hmmm, if there is a negative for that discourages, then there should also be a positive force that encourages. I am all too familiar with the negative force. My question is: where is that positive force that encourages? On vacation? Some have mentioned their current difficulties with survival. I have not worked since last April myself. I'm ok for the present, but time is rapidly running out. This has been going on for the last 8 years on and off. The haunting words of "Seek and ye shall find" and "knock and it shall be opened unto you" seem quite empty right now. I have sought and knocked for many years and have found naught. Time to wake up and energize..." :) you're funny. You know there was more to it then a simple lull. But we made it captain (the ambitious dark lieutenant speaking :) "I believe that there are a number of you who could successfully form local study groups. I see Glenys is our first volunteer. And Rick seems willing and it sounds like a group of local physical should would greatly enrich his life." "Now I know that many of you wish the group could be together on a physical level, but there is something within our reach which is just as good. No matter where you live there are seekers out there who are looking for knowledge that you have. When you gather a handful of them and meet on a weekly basis you'll have as good a camaraderie as we have here. If that idea doesn't motivate you I don't know what will." Rings perfectly true :) "The great part is you do not have to be a teaching whiz. All you would have to do is throw out a few of the questions we discuss on this list and you'll have to chase them home. Many will be hungry for more." THERE is a main question: "chase them home"? How to keep the searching alive? No premunched answers alright, but still some questions rolling? "QUESTION: Sounds good, but how does an amateur like me get started?" "Start with your friends. Most of us know at least a couple people with a metaphysical bent. Call them and tell them you are going to form a study group and study some new teachings you discovered on the Internet and see if they are interested. If you do not know anyone interested in metaphysics you probably need to get out more, but all is not lost. I am always here to support you with ideas." "First, select a place that will accommodate at least a dozen people. There is nothing wrong with starting with a home or apartment. If your place is small it is quite possible that one of your first students will have a large comfortable home that they would be happy to share." "There are also some places that may allow you to meet on a free basis. Some libraries have rooms for meetings that are either free or very inexpensive. Also check with your bookstores. Some of them will let you have meetings there in hope of selling your group some books." "If you have a little money to work with you could find a meeting room connected with a local Motel, YMCA, New Age Center, Judo Club or some other organization and rent it on a weekly basis. If you do this you will need to collect some dues from members so you will not have to bear the whole burden. Once you get ten people or so the expense will not be much of a burden on any one individual." The part with friends sounds alright to me, it's what comes after that I don't fit in. Promotion, news, etc, advertising. Really no :) Anyway it says "start with friends", so I don't need to bother about what comes after until I did not do it! I've been to Church (I used to be LDS) my fair share of times, and I've studied religion after religion searching for some kind of truth. Before I learned of JJ's teachings, the person who I felt was closest to the truth was a woman named Sylvia Browne. Anyway, back to the point. I am interested in the things JJ says because I had already proven much of it through my own experiences. If I don't know the answer to something, I will shut up and listen, while I figure it out. If I do know the answer, I can be very stubborn and influential. But I don't want to argue or sell any more. I've given out lots of copies of book 1, so far, but haven't got very good responses. I will begin to look into finding others in my area that are into the book, in the hope of gathering with like minds. I'll also continue putting more books out there, but I don't think I should have to use sales tactics. If someone is attracted to the teachings, it should be because it rings true to them, not because I was able to talk them into it. I know a little out of the way metaphysical bookstore where they have meetings. I'll try taking some books over there, next weekend, and see how it takes there. I will be in a lot better head space when my un-invited company leaves. This made a big impression on me, JJ. If it hadn't have been pointed out to me, I'm sure I would have been one of the ones adopting the line of least resistance and meandering through life wondering why loving sacrifice no longer worked. I would have thought that I was doing something wrong or was unworthy somehow. "Question: How is service going to have a different focus of attention in Aquarius than Pisces?" "Hint: Service in the new age will be seen in the light of the LAW of cause and effect and karma, and BUSINESS is the launching pad of the new vision." The phrase that keeps milling around my head on this one is Social Responsibility. I'm not talking about welfare programmes and the like but a society governed by principles based on co- operation, self-determination, freedom of expression and equality. If universal laws such as the law of Cause and Effect and Karma are recognized, accepted and incorporated into the human psyche, then the whole concept of how we treat others will be transformed. Self interest and benefit will be a factor in serving others instead of the sacrificial, self-denying principles of the Age of Pisces. This is already happening. Many businesses are adopting the 'new' ethics of valuing employees as assets in a spirit of partnership rather than being the work units of the past. Steven Covey's '7 Habits' series of books and other management books shown a trend towards the humanization of the workforce where the work place is seen as a place where employee's lives are enriched and empowered for the overall betterment of Society. There is a small but growing group of business owners in NZ who are taking a stand against the pure capitalistic, market and profit driven economic model and instead promote practices such as worker participation in decision making, true profit sharing and flat management structures. Some of these companies even regard the employee's family as important elements in the employee's productivity and have instituted family type programs that go beyond the provision of health care and creches and include activities such as providing grants/scholarships for their children's education. True social responsibility. There is growing evidence that when workers are given control over work decisions and goal setting, productivity rises dramatically - not to mention self esteem, a sense of personal freedom and self-determination. In the past, the power of the state has been employed on a grand scale to impose social forms and ideological principles that fit into the economic model in vogue at the time, be it capitalism, communism or fascism. The making of laws is a powerful instrument in this process, even when the people have been unwilling or resisted it to a greater or lesser degree. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to assume that the state will be a factor in bringing about a new social and economic order in the future, in particular through the law making process.. While the law supports workers' basic rights, some of these seem to have been eroded over the years under the worst aspects of the capitalist system where greed, selfishness, lack of concern for others and getting ahead at all costs in a competitive environment can predominate. So while the 40 hours week and other basic workers' rights are protected by law, in reality workers often find they have to work many more unpaid hours than that just to keep their job. And the welfare systems established by the state often breed a vicious cycle of dependency that is passed on from generation to generation. However, having said that I would have to agree that the major thrust of the law is to protect not only the basic human rights of society and the workforce, but also by doing this, providing for at least a degree of self determination and freedom. Once the higher, universal laws are recognized and accepted, our politicians, lawmakers and business people will see that what's good for one is good for all, that promoting the principles of freedom, autonomy and responsibility in the spirit of service and co-operation will bear instant fruit in terms of the Laws of Karma and Cause and Effect. Social responsibility will be the seen to be synonymous with spiritual responsibility and growth and ....... everyone will live happily ever after :-) Love Glenys PS This has turned into a longish discourse that doesn't say much but I'm sending it anyway if only to keep the two slow fingers which typed it from protesting. It's a form of social responsibility on a more microcosmic scale as I do my best to keep my body content, although there is still some work to be done on Equality as my stomach takes pride of place. No flat structures there! I'm sure diets have no place in the Age of Aquarius and if categorized, would definitely fall under the sacrificial energies of Pisces. Bring on the new order!! Her body was numb. She had been swimming for nearly sixteen hours. Already she was the first woman to swim the English Channel in both directions. Now, at age 34, her goal was to become the first woman to swim from Catalina Island to the California coast. On that Fourth of July morning in 1952, the sea was like an ice bath and the fog was so dense she could hardly see her support boats. Sharks cruised toward her lone figure, only to be driven away by rifle shots. Against the frigid grip of the sea, she struggled on - hour after hour - while millions watched on national television. Alongside Florence in one of the boats, her mother and her trainer offered encouragement. They told her it wasn't much farther. But all she could see was fog. They urged her not to quit. She never had . . . until then. With only a half mile to go, she asked to be pulled out. Still thawing her chilled body several hours later, she told a reporter, "Look, I'm not excusing myself, but if I could have seen land I might have made it." It was not fatigue or even the cold water that defeated her. It was the fog. She was unable to see her goal. Two months later, she tried again. This time, despite the same dense fog, she swam with her faith intact and her goal clearly pictured in her mind. She knew that somewhere behind that fog was land and this time she made it! Florence Chadwick became the first woman to swim the Catalina Channel, eclipsing the men's record by two hours! Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-27/2785 From: J J Dewey Subject: More on the Group We have received an interesting assortment of responses on the group idea. I asked you to respond according to the feelings from your own communion with your soul and this you have done quite honestly. One thing that does seem to distinguish this group is the honesty of the individual members. I am sincerely glad that each of you do speak the truth as you see it. Whatever your response was and is about the group idea is a thing I accept, for some are here to learn only, others want to do more, but seek to serve in their own way and still others want to actively promote the teachings under discussion according to the ideas I presented. Several of you have commented that you would be (or have) happy to share the teachings with your friends and would basically be interested in starting a group if it naturally evolves. If this is the direction you feel inclined to pursue you may eventually wind up with a fireball who will become a promoting energy for you and assist you in gathering some workable numbers. Xavier and Rick seem to be "loners" who fit in this category, but from what I have seen of them on this list I would be willing to bet that both of them would become quite the "non loners" as well as promoters once they get a few interested on a local level. Garrett does not want to participate at this time because he is not 100 per cent positive about the teachings. I know there is a lot of light in him from the postings he has made and if he has not received soul contact as of yet, the day cannot be far for him. I am sure Garrett speaks for many and this is fine. No one can ask more of you than to follow the highest you know and be true to it. I will say this, however. You do not have to be completely sure of a teaching to experiment with it and benefit from it. There was much doubt concerning the teachings of Jesus: John 7:12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. John 7:13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. John 7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. John 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself. Notice in verse 17 He gave them a method of discovering the truth of His teachings. Do the will of God and you shall know if the doctrine is true. Jesus was basically telling the people that if His doctrine was true and from God and you apply the principles you will receive a witness and know the truth. The same applies to me and all other teachers. If you apply or teach the teachings yourself your soul will eventually verify to you whether or not they are true. If a teaching is true it will grow like a good seed and expand your sensitivity to the Spirit of God within you. If the teaching is false you will receive an empty feeling and your interest and attention on the teaching will fade away, (unless you have the beast of authority force feeding you). Several of you have told me that you already have a group and are teaching my writings as well as others. I appreciate this. Now I suggested the name, The Synthesis Group, but if you already have a group (with or without a name) and do not want to actively use the suggested name, yet still teach the writings, this is fine. Actually all groups who seek to gather light from various sources are using the principle of Synthesis whether they use the word or not. I see us creating a growing number of Synthesis Groups over time along with associated, but supportive groups, that will work in harmony with us, but may have some goals and teachings different from ours. I will be putting together a flyer and sample ads that I will make available to all who can use them. Let me close here by expressing my appreciation and love to each one of you who have ever posted and for the good vibes from you silent ones. You have made this forum the undiscovered oasis of light on the Web. JJ PS There has not been much comment on yesterday's question: "How is service going to have a different focus of attention in Aquarius than Pisces?" Glenys gave some great thoughts on it. I would suggest that you read her post and see if additional ideas come to mind. Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-27/2786 From: David Curtis Subject: Re: More on the Group J J Dewey writes: "PS There has not been much comment on yesterday's question: "How is service going to have a different focus of attention in Aquarius than Pisces?" I may still have a hard time distinguishing between the Piscean definition of service and the Aquarian. However, I am going to try. Business right now is primarily focused on profit. As a result, some (if not most) of the employees of a particular business could be forgotten or ignored if they don't make their presence known. It would seem, that if a company spent as much energy taking care of their employees and making them happy, as they did obtaining profit, they would create a much more productive workforce. In turn that makes people overall happier, and could raise the morality of the public across the board, IF most companies adopted that line of thinking. Service shouldn't focus strictly on the physical either. It's great that we put so much effort into getting the homeless places to live. However, once they have a place to live they are forgotten. What else can we do? Well, sometimes just being a good friend can be a great service to someone. Sometimes being a shoulder to cry on is a great service. In my opinion, especially in this day and age, being a teacher is one of the greatest services. Not just school teachers, but teachers of all kind. So the difference between the Piscean idea of service and the Aquarian idea is likely this: Piscean - Service = Sacrifice. If you give a lot of your hard earned money to charities, that is service. If you obey your minister/priest/bishop/ prophet/ pope without question, you are being of service to God. Aquarian - Service. Be a teacher. Be a friend. Be supportive of someone. Be excellent to each other. Help each other make it big in life, wealth, and happiness. Teamwork. I hope I'm relatively close! Frankly, it's the least we (I) can do. When I see I don't match with what is "required", I can only get down to plain honesty to keep the ball rolling. "Whatever your response was and is about the group idea is a thing I accept, for some are here to learn only, others want to do more, but seek to serve in their own way and still others want to actively promote the teachings under discussion according to the ideas I presented." I don't even do that. I kind of find an agreement between my low-ego and my up-ego :) "I will say this, however. You do not have to be completely sure of a teaching to experiment with it and benefit from it." Great point. I have to remember this. (prophet thing again, I feel I need to have the tables of the law behind my robe to speak about God) "There was much doubt concerning the teachings of Jesus: "John 7:12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people .John 7:13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. "Notice in verse 17 He gave them a method of discovering the truth of His teachings. Do the will of God and you shall know if the doctrine is true." That's true. Put my label on it :) When you have a precise insight about what the will of God is, it is required that you act according to it in order to receive deeper confirmation. because it's a game of service. "Jesus was basically telling the people that if His doctrine was true and from God and you apply the principles you will receive a witness and know the truth." "The same applies to me and all other teachers. If you apply or teach the teachings yourself your soul will eventually verify to you whether or no >they are true." Yes I already saw that I would only understand the keys by "teaching" them. Rather: by helping others to reach them, or better: by figuring them together. Yes. Or else I *could* do the job here, but until now I play the fool. "If a teaching is true it will grow like a good seed and expand your sensitivity to the Spirit of God within you. If the teaching is false you will receive an empty feeling and your interest and attention on the teaching will fade away, (unless you have the beast of authority force feeding you)." Is it so strict? I'm sure we can have middle delusions, that make the teaching less strong, and yet don't fall in authority. If you're right, then things are better than I thought :) "Several of you have told me that you already have a group and are teaching my writings as well as others. I appreciate this. Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-27/2790 From: Tracey Hobson Subject: Re: More on the Group I forgot to post something on this yesterday that immediately came to mind upon reading JJ's question. It is the difference between two department stores in this area, namely Macys and Nordstrom. I had to buy a scarf this weekend. I had looked in Nordstrom last month and didn't find exactly what I wanted. So I went to Macys last Saturday. I had to find a sales clerk myself to ask a question. When I found the scarves, silks were mixed with velvets which were mixed with chiffons, etc. Hard to find what I wanted - hard to get help. So I went back to Nordstrom (also known as shopping heaven). Everything was separated according to fabric type and style; sales people were readily available and didn't give off any "attitude". Why, you might ask? At Macys, people get a paycheck. At Nordstrom, they get a paycheck AND a percentage of their sales. The workers are happier. And more helpful. And better trained. (By the way, I found the most beautiful Italian violet blue velvet scarf with a sheer red silk backing on sale at Nordstrom!) Also, has anyone read the difference, generally speaking, between Japanese profit sharing and the way Americans do it? A whole lot more money filters down to the work force in Japan than it does here. American CEOs and top level executives take an inordinate amount of the profit and have salaries that rival rock stars and pro athletes. This just is not the way to go IF you want happy workers who put out top quality products and services. I suspect that the shift will be, especially with companies run by the Gen X-ers, more toward treating mid and lower level workers more like equal human beings and less like endentured servants. (Can ya tell I'm a little irritado about my salary? I mean, God forbid I cut into my boss' six figure bonus! Puleeez!). Anyway, my thoughts... Also the original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking directions to the beer wagon when the call came. I was assured by the other two judges that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy, and besides they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted this as being one of those burdens you endure when you're an internet writer and therefore known and adored by all. Here are the scorecards from the event: Chili 1: Mike's Maniac Mobster Monster Chili JUDGE ONE: A little too heavy on tomato. Amusing kick. JUDGE TWO: Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild. FRANK: Holy smokes, what is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway with it. Took me two beers to put the flames out. Hope that's the worst one. These people are crazy. Chili 2: Arthur's Afterburner Chili JUDGE ONE: Smoky (barbecue?) with a hint of pork. Slight Jalapeno tang. JUDGE TWO: Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously. FRANK: Keep this out of reach of children! I'm not sure what I am supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. Shoved my way to the front of the beer line. Chili 3: Fred's Famous Burn Down the Barn Chili JUDGE ONE: Excellent firehouse chili! Great kick. Needs more beans. JUDGE TWO: A beanless chili, a bit salty, good use of red peppers. FRANK: This has got to be a joke. Call the EPA, I've located a !??!?%?~?! uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been sneezing Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now and got out of my way so I could make it to the beer wagon. Barmaid pounded me on the back; now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. Chili 4: Bubba's Black Magic JUDGE ONE: Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing. JUDGE TWO: Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili. FRANK: I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Sally, the bar maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills so I wouldn't have to dash over to see her. Chili 5: Linda's Legal Lip Remover JUDGE ONE: Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground adding considerable kick. Very impressive. JUDGE TWO: Chili using shredded beef; could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement. FRANK: My ears are ringing and I can no longer focus my eyes. I belched and four people in front of me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed hurt when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue by pouring beer directly on it from a pitcher. Sort of irritates me that one of the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Chili 6: Vera's Very Vegetarian Variety JUDGE ONE: Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spice and peppers. JUDGE TWO: The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb. FRANK: My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous flames. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except Sally. Chili 7: Susan's Screaming Sensation Chili JUDGE ONE: A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers. JUDGE TWO: Ho Hum, tastes as if the chef threw in canned chili peppers at the last moment. I should note that I am worried about Judge Number 3, he appears to be in a bit of distress. FRANK: You could put a hand grenade in my mouth and pull the pin and I wouldn't feel it. I've lost the sight in one eye and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My clothes are covered with chili which slid unnoticed out of my mouth at some point. Good, at autopsy they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing, it's too painful and I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air I'll just let it in through the hole in my stomach. I love Sally. Chili 8: Helen's Mount Saint Chili JUDGE ONE: This final entry is a good, balanced chili, neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge Number 3 fell and pulled the chili pot on top of himself. JUDGE TWO: A perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili, safe for all, not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence. About noon this morning we were evacuated from our homes and went to Fort St John. The Taylor Plant (gas refinery) had a major fire resulting in 2 really large and a whole series of small explosions. We live right on the plant fence so we got front row seats to the show. The whole house shook and some people that lived in trailers had pictures come off the walls. 12 people were hurt, 1 seriously. Other than that the damage was contained to the plant itself. We have just been let back into our homes now. (9:45 pm) It's really strange to come home and find the town and everything in it looking as if nothing happened. I guess it will take us all a while to get ourselves back to normal. I put the kids to bed and I wonder if they will be able to sleep. They were taken from the school to Baldonnel School. That's our safe area where we were to go to check in and make sure everyone was accounted for. The adults thought they were protecting the kids by not telling them what was going on, but they made things even scarier for them instead. As it was lunchtime the kids were all outside playing on the hill so they all seen the fire. When I got to the school they all came running asking if they're home and pets were all burned up. To say the least that whole thing should have been handled better. I guess now we know just where the emergency relief needs to improve. All in all its been a really weird day. Makes you think about what's important and I guess that is a good thing. I am not sure how I feel yet about the whole thing, time will tell. Some people are very scared but I don't feel that way. All through the whole thing fear wasn't something I had. Right now I am at a loss as to what I should be doing. To say the least I am off schedule by a day. For now I just wanted to let you know what was happening and to let everyone know we are all right. So take care I'll keep you posted if there is any more news. Love, Madalyn Post No. keys-l: /1999-04/2798 From: J J Dewey Subject: Aquarian Service Haven't been able to write much lately - my business has been going crazy for some reason. The question under consideration: : "How is service going to have a different focus of attention in Aquarius than Pisces?" The comments we have had on this have been good, but have also been few which tells me this has been a difficult one for you. I'll give a brief comment here and we'll move ahead. In the Piscean Age sacrificial service was stressed with little or no reward on this earth. You pretty much had to have faith that God would make it right with you in the next world. There was a degree of ignorance involved, for the Piscean age people were motivated by emotion rather than mind. As you astrologers know Pisces is a water sign which is a symbol of emotion and Aquarius is an air sign which symbolizes the mind. Another important point is that Pisces is mutable and Aquarius is fixed. The mutable force causes Pisces to be flexible and malleable which is the reason we have had so many belief systems in Pisces, over a thousand in the Christian faith alone. Also the fact that there are so many belief systems among the New Agers is a sign that Pisces is still working strongly there. The mutability of Pisces along with the water sign makes Pisces a very stormy period - the storm before the peace rather than the peace before the storm. Aquarius is a fixed sign and air indicating that mind, reasoning and judgment will prevail over blind emotion to bring the many into unity. If you are trying to guess how many beans are in a jar you will get a thousand opinions (Pisces), but when the intelligent man counts the beans and proves the number of beans in the jar the conflict has ended. No disagreement is possible except for the mentally unstable. The interesting thing is that we are switching from the most emotional of signs to the most mental. It is also interesting that many New Agers as well as Born Againers are telling us to "loose the mind," "Become mindless," or "follow your feelings and ignore the mind." Such teachings are 100% Piscean and will soon pass away. Because Pisces is such an emotional energy and Aquarius so mental the resistance to the New Age by the accepted teachers of the world will be very strong. Service in the Aquarian Age will become much more logical. Instead of serving blindly, people will learn to think and give of their service when it is logical to do so. The failure of the welfare systems of the world, for instance, demonstrates the need for the Aquarian mind to tackle the problem. Aquarian energies will not be against helping the downtrodden, but will support helping them in a way that works and truly makes sense. The residual Piscean people are enablers whereas the Aquarian people will empower. If there is a key sentence for the age of Aquarius it is this: "service with a reward for all parties involved." Those clinging to Pisces serve under the lose-win idea whereas in Aquarius the idea is win-win. "Win-Win... Aren't we starting to hear that more and more in business these days? If we were to define Aquarius in a nutshell that would be the phrase: Win-Win. Democracy will also be a major keynote of the new age and will filter more and more into business. How much participation do you see employees having in the business of the future? If you were in charge of the company where you work, what changes would you make? How would you remove the "beast" out of the business world if you had the power to do so? Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-28/2799 From: LeLona Hodges Subject: Re: Aquarian Service JJ writes: "If you were in charge of the company where you work, what changes would you make?" "How would you remove the "beast" out of the business world if you had the power to do so?" Where I work the owner of the company must be of the Aquarian mind, because he doesn't like rules and regiments, nor does he stand over everyone with an authoritarian whip. His philosophy is that he hires people who know how to do the job then he lets them do it. That makes each department responsible and accountable for their own actions. So if I were in charge of the company where I work now about the only thing I would change is hiring people who can read and follow logic, think for themselves and problem solve. To remove the beast out of the business world, if I had the power to do so, would be to equalize salaries for women doing the same work as men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I know this isn't the answer JJ is looking for. (Now, why didn't I, little Miss Codependents Anonymous, think of that one?!? I knew that. I did. I knew that!) "Democracy will also be a major keynote of the new age and will filter more and more into business. How much participation do you see employees having in the business of the future?" A LOT more! Way more than is common across the board right now. "If you were in charge of the company where you work, what changes would you make?" Oh boy.... For starters, I'd begin rewarding people for being better communicators. After spending 10 years working for 2 Fortune 500 companies, one of which made the "Top 100 Best Companies to Work for in America" list, the company I am currently working for has such unbelievably poor internal communications, it makes me wonder how/if they are even able to communicate with customers. Or maybe internal people just aren't that important to hassle with keeping them informed. Policies, procedures and boundaries are at a distinct minimum. For instance, if HR would routinely let various key people know in advance when new hires are expected to start, so many more things could be in place when they get here (like phones, a mail box, their computer, supplies, etc.). But no. We typically find out the day they a. start, or b. when we get intercompany mail for them and have to ask "who the heck is this?" It's just unbelievable, mind-boggling compared with other professional experiences I've had. Also, I would find out what the standard pay rates are around the valley, and pay people accordingly. The attrition rate here is higher than average. I know they'd get a whole lot more outa me if they weren't so tight with a buck! I would also implement the "radical" trend toward peer evaluations, as well as subordinate evaluations of their managers (believe it or not, some places do this and I happen to think it is a terrific idea). And I wouldn't make employees pay for the workout facilities here. More places in Silicon Valley have this as a FREE employee benefit than those that don't (of the larger companies, anyway). At this company, if you want to use the facilities, you have to have deductions taken out of your paycheck, and the place isn't even all that great, comparatively speaking. "How would you remove the "beast" out of the business world if you ha the power to do so?" By having more of a "group conscience" taken regarding certain matters. For instance, a friend of mine that was working a production line at one of the old Fortune 500 companies I worked for, kept telling his supervisor that having to remain in the position in which he found himself 8 hours a day was probably not doing his body much good. The supervisor could not have cared less and was unresponsive to my friend's suggestions. My friend ended up having carpel-tunnel surgery on both wrists, and has fibro-myalgia (arthritis in the muscles rather than joints). He has also been found by doctors to be 48% disabled and has had to go through vocational rehab and cannot find a new job at his company. Now, if this had been brought to a group level discussion early on, maybe all this pain and expense could have been avoided, by cross-training the production group. I know of many stories similar to this, where supervisors and/or managers do not want to be bothered, and end up causing all kinds of needless expense to their company, be it medical, legal, whatever. Some companies have given lip service to team building and empowering groups, but haven't put any oomph into their words, when push has come to shove. I see and hear about some of the younger, internet based businesses being started by Gen-Xer's, fresh out of Stanford and some of these hot shot schools, who are doing things much differently, more in keeping with the movement toward the Aquarian Age. I'd take the power from the few (those who inflict others with their blind authority) and spread it amongst many, somehow. I'm no MBA, but this is completely fascinating to me (having been at the receiving end of the b.s. that rolls downhill for so long! :) That's all from me. You know, what is it that most employees complain about most? I think the answer is obvious...money. Let's take a Collection Company for example..... Currently, the average collector for the company I used to work for, collected about $6000 a month. What would happen if we gave them their base salary..say $1200/mo. Then we gave a percentage (10%) of what they collected on top of that. Well...we tried that on one Collector whose monthly average was about $7500/mo, only with much smaller numbers. (About $20 for every $1000 collected.) That month her numbers jumped from $7500 the previous month to an incredible $25,000 the next. This is a win-win situation if I've ever seen it. I think if you want employees to really respond and produce a lot, then you need to be willing to show them the money. The more money they could potentially make, the more money they will make you. Put their financial success in their hands, and I'll bet they will work miracles. That's just one example I can think of. There are a hundred more, but I've babbled enough for one post. I'll give a brief comment here and we'll move ahead." I have to admit that besides my own busyness one of the reasons I haven't written much is that I too find this somewhat harder to crack and grasp than what we have been contemplating in the past. But what I now read of these Ages make perfect sense to me :) "If you are trying to guess how many beans are in a jar you will get a thousand opinions (Pisces), but when the intelligent man counts the beans and proves the number of beans in the jar the conflict has ended." Then the intelligent woman steps in the room and says to the dudes, let's do something more meaningful than play with beans, shall we? :D Hehehee :) No, I do get the point. Using common sense where it is the most effective thing to do, and use emotion and intuition in their own areas of life where they give best results. Doing things the ideal way, instead of trying to utilize big thoughts, feelings and deeds in places where they just make things confused, because wrong tools are being used. You don't paint a beautiful picture with a calculator, neither use a brush to do math, right? :D "It is also interesting that many New Agers as well as Born Againers are telling us to "loose the mind," "Become mindless," or "follow your feelings and ignore the mind." Such teachings are 100% Piscean and will soon pass away." Words like 'loose', 'less', 'ignore' can't hold the future. I firmly believe new days come thru balancing different aspects of life, as well as the duality within. "Service in the Aquarian Age will become much more logical. Instead of serving blindly, people will learn to think and give of their service when it is logical to do so." This makes sense, and is something I have been thinking about quite a bit. I see many people being eager to offer help, which is great, but often they seem to do even that somewhat blindly, not thinking if it's the best or most effective thing in the long run, and sometimes they create situations where the helped become very dependedent. Of course what you do is important, but the importance becomes even greater when you pay attention to how you do it, and go for the most sensible way that will benefit most. "Democracy will also be a major keynote of the new age and will filter more and more into business. How much participation do you see employees having in the business of the future?" A lot. It should be an interactive thing between employers and employees, because I see everyday that many employers don't have any clue what happens at the ground level, and employees feel they're too small and unimportant to have their voice heard. "If you were in charge of the company where you work, what changes would you make?" It is very hard for me to ever think of myself as a leader of any kind, because people in charge often give the image that they're somehow superior and better than their employees... Well, maybe that's the what I would do, I'd make sure there was no reason for a feeling like that to exist :) "How would you remove the "beast" out of the business world if you had the power to do so?" By making sure the workers are independent people who think for themselves, yet they are group-minded beings, who work together for a common goal, and are willing to speak out loud their opinion, if they see there's room for improvement in the way business is handled. Bosses should be more like organizers who make the business run smoothly in the most effective way, instead of big-wigs who gain the glory sitting in their high chairs telling 'people below' how things should be run. I think it's important to keep in mind that not only can we offer something to a company, but it should also provide us an environment where we feel what we do is of importance, instead of feeling just like a mindless piece of the big machinery. We must not become slaves even if we are paid to do what we are good at, but the focus should be meaningful collaboration, where we get what we have been giving, and that goes both ways between employers and employees. When the feeding cycle is up and running, win-win is reality, and All benefits :) Cheers dears, Samu Post No. keys-l: /1999-01-28/2805 From: Tracey Hobson Subject: Re: Aquarian Service, one more quick thought Dave C.'s post was great. This would eliminate the pyramid that business and government is based on today and create an even flowing circle. Some might argue that this has been tried in some communist countries and didn't work. Those were doughnuts, because the state was in the middle.
