The Mystery Of Jehovah

Index of Archived Articles by JJ Dewey

Synopsis:   It seems that any time the topic of "The Old Testament God" and "The New Testament God" comes up, someone immediately makes a comparison between the two apparently different acting "gods," and then a comment is made to the effect of how "angry and strict" the "Old Testament God" seemed to always be --"smiting" these people and that person -- here there and seemingly everywhere for all kinds of reasons -- to include but not limited to reasons of jealousy. Whereas the "God of the New Testament" seemed to magically have a change of heart, and with the exception of The Book Of Revelations, He seemingly has a completely different attitude -- more towards what might be termed as "Love and Wisdom." Typically and in conjunction with the foregoing statements, people would also say someting to the effect that "God" had to be tough on the Israelites because they were stubborn and needed to learn their lessons, and that somehow by the time that Jesus arrived on the scene they (The Israelites) had finally managed to learn all they were supposed to learn. From what eventually transpired between them and Jesus, it doesn't seem to actually be the case, does it? So why did it seem that there was so much difference between these two Gods, when they were supposed to be the same God? Did God change? Were these entities the same?
