JJ:

Yes, that was a silly statement made by [the evangelical Christian] Pat Robertson -- blaming the Haiti earthquake on the legend of their pact with the Devil. But why has this gotten so much more press than an even dumber comment by [actor] Danny Glover?

Glover said the earthquake was caused by global warming as a result of the failure of Copenhagen [2009 Climate Conference]. Wow.

On top of this Lefty hero [Hugo] Chavez blamed it on the United States military.

Equally as silly as these type of statements is Mr. Sours lumping Fox News in with such things when there is absolutely no connection. Because Glover and I are both Americans does that mean I also blame Global Warming for the earthquake? That makes as much sense as lumping Fox News or [Fox commentator, Brit] Hume in with Robertson.

This just illustrates the Left's inability to come up with a legitimate criticism of Fox.

"Danny Glover does not speak for thousands of people who share his belief system."

"Danny Glover is an actor. Pat Robertson is a 'religious leader.'

"Can't you see the difference?"

JJ:

No, I don't see a difference. I think that there are as many people with Glover's mindset as Robertson. Have you seen any Christian anywhere agree with Robertson on this?

"GrayMatter":

"Maybe you can make up some percentages for us as to how many people worldwide look upon Danny Glover as the leader of a religious movement?"

JJ:

And maybe you can make up your usual accusations against me today that are 100 percent false.

"Yipper":

"What are you talking about -- Sours was talking about Brit Hume on Fox, not Fox itself. Are you the official Fox fan club president?"

JJ:

The "Hume on Fox" quote brings them both into play. He probably wouldn't mention a quote like this if it had been said on CNN. I'm the unofficial fan club president. (I can see the marbles in Graymatter's brain being activated by that statement.).

"In spite of the R's [Republican's] denials, this IS GWB's [George W. Bush's] Recession. He came into office with a surplus budget. He had a small recession due to billions lost in the 'dot com' bust, but no big deal, not even two consecutive quarters worth. But the current recession started in the 3rd quarter of 2007, a year before the...."

JJ:

And of course, the Democrats who came into power in 2006 and approved all the spending had nothing to do with it. They were just innocent little angels at the mercy of "Big Bad Terrifying Bush." Bush must be a genius then to manipulate them so easily - no kicking and screaming as Bush pushes them down to the depths of hell.

"That's how it looks like the whole group backs his (Robertson's) slander...no one objects. Or, like Joseph [JJ], they try to somehow spin it into a left/right thing and insult progressives."

JJ:

The spin began on the Left when they only publish this story to make the Right look like loons and ignore Glover and Chavez from the Left who say even crazier things. I was not spinning in attempting to add some balance. To spin you leave important data out. Inclusive coverage is not spin.

"Cherenkov" the wrote:

"Hey Joseph, was Glover implying that the earthquake happened because God is angry with His people for polluting the atmosphere to the point that they are damaging His gift...."

JJ:

Yeah. I think Glover's version of God was implying that. It would take a supernatural God to cause the earthquake because of wrath over Copenhagen.

"Cherenkov":

"Why is it crazier for Glover to say the earthquake is God's wrath for ignoring global warming than for...."

JJ:

Both are on the fringe, but I think it is easier to believe a pact with the devil than God being angry over a meeting. Hugo Chavez is the President of Venezuela and claims the U.S. military created the earthquake with a secret weapon they will soon use on Iran. You'd think they'd just attack Iran first.

"Robertson's statement was based on hate, Glover's was not. Has nothing to do with left, right or middle."

JJ:

Of the two I think Glover hates Global warming skeptics a lot more than Robertson does his skeptics. Robertson has people in Haiti helping the victims. I don't see Glover doing anything that non hateful. Why is it that everything the Left disagrees with is seen as coming from hate? Does not compute.

"Now you are a psychic? You know what this letter writer would say if Brit Hume had spoken on another station?

"You must argue with what he said, and what Brit Hume said -- not your fantasy sequence of events.

"The writer used this to identify where Brit Hume's comment was made. Why do you...."

JJ:

I knew you would respond with something like the psychic angle. The response would have been the same if Hume had responded on CNN because he is seen as the enemy. If [the actor] Leonardo DeCaprio had said something similar on CNN no big deal would have been made of it by the Left.

Show me proof you will be at the coffee break tomorrow and supply us with evidence later what you did. Yes. This is ridiculous, but similar to "GrayMatter's" demands of me. She wants me to verify my every word instead of just looking up the data and disproving me if I am wrong.

"What is false?"

JJ:

Right in this post you say that I claim a "skeptic consensus" of the effect of CO2 [carbon dioxide]. This was completely false. I said no such thing.

"GrayMatter":

"And you have yet to provide anything which backs up your 25% claim of skeptic consensus."

JJ:

I said nothing about consensus. Here are my actual words:  "skeptics say it is small, 25 percent at most."

In other words 25 percent (temperature influence of CO2) is not a consensus but the largest figure I have seen used by skeptics. Most use a smaller one. I believe it was in the book "Resilient Earth" that I saw the 25 percent figure.

"GrayMatter":

"Only you would believe Danny Glover is more influential or more listened to than Pat Robertson."

JJ:

Another falsehood. Here are my actual words:  "I think that there are as many people with Glover's mindset as Robertson."

I said nothing about who is the most influential but about people as a whole.
