Happy New Year

Hope you had a Happy New Year, my friends. New Years is also our wedding anniversary. We were married 20 minutes after midnight, January 1, 1988.

Why 20 minutes after midnight you ask?

We were planning on getting married at the stroke of midnight. Just to make sure that was a good time I did an astrological chart for that time as it related to our two charts and discovered a negative aspect we needed to avoid. 20 minutes later looked a lot better so we set the time at that. Since this was my third marriage I wanted it to be charm.

So, we got married at 20 minutes after midnight and the stars must have been aligned correct this time for he have now been married 22 years.

For our anniversary we went to a dinner and a movie. The movie was "Sherlock Holmes" staring Robert Downey Jr., and Jude Law. This was a good movie. It was more traditional than "Avatar" that we saw last week but it was well done in ever way. The story was good and so was the acting, photography and special effects.

One thing I liked about it was the true friendship between Holmes and his sidekick, Watson. Recent movies have given the sidekick a chip on his shoulder, wanting to prove himself. The Batman and Robin movie did this as well as "Wild West" with Will Smith and Kevin Kline. Watson got frustrated with Holmes at times but was confident in his own right.

Downey's Holmes was definitely not the Holmes of yesteryear. This movie preserved the essence of the old Sherlock and added a few touches of "Batman" and "Rambo." The fun thing is that it worked and I would give it 3.5 or maybe 4 stars out of four.

Another thing I liked was there was no apparent political agenda. It looked like the motive was purely the making of an entertaining movie.

The good thing for Downey is that it is a great vehicle for a number of sequels. And speaking of sequels we saw the trailer for "Iron Man 2" also staring Downey. This also looked like a must-see. Another trailer we saw that looked good was "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" staring Nicolas Cage. It doesn't come out till July though.

Since we are at the first of the year it would be a good time to take another stab at predicting. So let me invite members to post predictions on what the future year may hold.

Here's an incomplete list of suggestions:
