On this note it is interesting to examine popular scientific theory of life on other planets.

Most scientists believe there is life on other planets but just not sure of the percentage. Some scientists who believe that life abounds in the universe are baffled by the fact that SETI has examined radio waves from thousands of star systems and have not yet found a signal from intelligent life. They have three theories on why this is the case.

  1. In the lifespan of a planet such as earth which is 4.5 billion years old the time frame we have sent radio waves capable of reaching space has only been about 70 years. Let us say that within 100 years this type of communication becomes obsolete and replaced by something else. That's only 170 years out of 4.5 billion that this anomaly would exist.

If we reduce the life span of our earth at 4.5 billion years and reduce it to equal one year then this 170 years would equal much less than one second -- two hundred's of one second to be exact. If something like this is the case then even if we search the radio waves from an earth like planet the chances of catching a civilization existing in this 170 year time frame would be small.

  1. Statistically there has to be other intelligent life in the universe but perhaps only a few star systems have developed life of our intelligence. It is quite possible though that life of lesser intelligence is more abundant.
  2. A growing theory is this. There are actually quite a few planets with earth type life but when they reach our stage of evolution they develop nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction and either blow themselves out of existence or back to the stone age. This happens again and again and only a few, if any, planets escape this doom.

It is quite possible that humanity has destroyed itself several times already. There is interesting evidence that human life existed on the earth even billions of years ago. Michal Cremo has done a lot of investigation on this. He has found man made objects many millions and even billions of years old that have been sealed in coal and even marble and granite rock.

Hopefully we can make it into a peaceable new age without great destruction. Nothing is a sure thing but my soul tells me that we are in a time of opportunity to make this happen. Even so, this is not a sure thing and we could lose many of the gains we have made.

The key to making a peaceful transition lies with the more enlightened among humanity. They must step forward and do their part.
