Conflict

My Friends,

There has been quite a bit of conflict and personality attacks on the list lately and several have thought I should make some comments.

First, let me repeat that even though this list is partially moderated my personal belief is to allow all posts through unless they are a big distraction, mean spirited or outrageous. I want maximum freedom of expression here and we use the moderation tool sparingly.

Now the recent conflicts we have had is mostly among old time members that are not moderated. Dean, of course is always in the attack mode and is moderated. I probably should reject more of his posts as he seems to argue for arguments sake and is usually a distraction.

When there is a conflict members often want me to get involved and take sides. I rarely do this, especially if the conflict is centered on a personality level. If there is a dispute over teachings then I may make some comment.

Concerning conflict here is my advice.

Stay on the subject of discussing teachings instead of worrying about correcting or insulting another member.

We have had too much concern about the other guy screwing up rather than concentrating on philosophical discussion. Another problem is sometimes members get offended when no offense was intended and then attacks. Much conflict could be avoided if we just made sure we understand each other.

If an unmoderated member reverts to attack and personality discussion then he may be subject to being put on moderation. I hope this will not become necessary.

Blayne and I are currently having a strong debate but both of us are doing our best to keep it on a mental level. Let us all at least make an effort to do this.

John C expressed a desire to do more than just post on this list. I can understand this feeling and wish him well in any project he desires to initiate.

But one thing I have learned is how difficult effective action is. Effective action will often require many years of planning and preparation. To implement a principle or teaching requires more subtle energy than just about any other thing. If one wants to make more money, start a business, build a house then he has a good chance for success if he plods ahead. But to initiate a higher level of spirituality takes a superhuman effort. The path toward the New Jerusalem is filled with the bodies of tired soldiers who have tried and failed and given up.

I haven't made my move toward real doing yet because all things are not quite in place. Stage one is well underway and that is the creation of many original writings that has power to stimulate many minds.

Stage two is in sight. I'll let you know when it begins.

In the mean time if someone wants to prepare for things to come I would recommend starting a local study group. This is a fun and growing experience and can be very helpful in the future.
