An Important Issue

Why would JJ care about this subject (Global Warming) so much that he makes a habit of attaching a quote supporting his anti-manmade-global-warming opinion at the end of most of his posts? What makes this issue so important to him?

Is he using this as an object lesson about not blindly going along with what is clearly the majority position?

Is there something sinister but presently undisclosed that would benefit greatly from efforts to significantly reduce CO2 emissions?

Is there something beneficial that will not be available, or will not happen, if we make an abrupt change in our energy generation and consumption patterns?

Global warming is a very important subject for a number of reasons.

First, the conception of it in the public's mind is heavily cloaked in illusion. This makes the subject a great teaching mechanism to illustrate a real life example of illusion that must be mastered by the seeker. All will agree that we must not be blinded by illusion but teaching the theory is much easier than teaching the real life example. When you get to any real life example of illusion, generally the majority will not see the fog that veils or the truth behind the veil.

Secondly, this is an extremely important issue. I believe that the Dark Brotherhood is using it as a fulcrum from which their pawns can grab power and threaten us again with a Nazi type tyranny.

Just Sunday I heard a clip of Al Gore speaking on TV when he was before Congress. I wrote down his actual words which were:

"We should immediately freeze CO2 emissions in the United States of America and then begin a program of sharp reductions to reach at least 90 percent reductions by 2050."

The only way to come close to these draconian measures would be a crash program to build nuclear power plants, but Gore is against the nuclear option. If we were to reduce our consumption of all fuel which produces CO2 by 90 percent (unless there is some clean breakthrough) our economy would collapse and a poor economy is a breeding ground for tyranny. Remember Hitler came to power during a depressed economy.

I think it is fine to proceed toward cleaner energy, but to mandate a timeline would most likely bring disaster. If the government wants to change things it must dangle the carrot rather than to shove the horse upstream.

SH:

The film seemed to be saying that decent living conditions in Africa depended on electricity being readily available, and the cheapest and most accessible source of electricity is fossil fuels. Now frankly I think the Africa angle was thrown in there not out of sincere concern for Africans, but because it gives an emotional counter to the manmade global warming position. Be that as it may, it's still a pretty good point - namely, that the personal and societal evolution of a significant portion of the earth's population is hamstrung without fossil fuels. Is this perhaps why JJ is so focused on this issue?

I agree with you that they probably threw the African angle in for effect. They are attempting to beat the global warmers at their own game. But yes, they do have a point. The third world doesn't have the funds to develop the more expensive green energy and to survive, the temporary use of fossil fuels could be a big help.

If we can keep our economy strong then our technological progress will continue and it will only be a matter of time before we make some real alternative energy breakthroughs. If we just perfect some of the alternatives we have now much progress could be obtained, but to do so we must maintain freedom and prosperity.

Helping the third world is important, but more important is maintaining our freedom and economic prosperity because without that we will not be able to help anyone. If the free nations were to collapse there would be none to help them.
