Dan's Questions

Dan asks:

JJ's the teacher, so JJ, do you feel it is inappropriate for students in this classroom to:

  1. Attempt to re-state your teachings in their own words and from their own perspective?
  2. State techniques and methods they may devise to put their interpretations of your teachings into practice in one's life?
  3. Tell personal stories and anecdotes about how your teachings have appeared to work out (or not) in their day to day lives?

I don't mind any of these, but they would be off topic if they do not apply to the subject under discussion. I like to see the majority of posts on subject rather than off. This is one reason we have asked members to limit their off topic posts to two a day per person. Even at this level, if enough people posted two OT posts per day this could overwhelm the subject, but usually it works out fairly well.

Dan and others have often brought up past writings and have made comments that have been very helpful and have helped keep interest when my daily post did not bring much response. This is one of the best reasons for OT posts. Anything else should be of fairly high general interest.

Let me also praise Ruth for her daily quotes which are always on topic for those who want to comment on them.

In making any off topic post the question to ask is always this:  "Does this help further the purpose and quality of the list and is it of interest to members?"

Furious activity is no substitute for understanding.
