Da Vinci Code

My Friends,

As you know the Da Vinci Code is finally released today.

Both the orthodox conservative religious people as well as the liberal critics don't like it. Since both groups are consistently wrong my desire to see it is increased more than ever.

Orthodox religious people do not like it because the plot reveals that Jesus was married. For some reason, zealots maintain that this is blasphemous because it would mean he was not divine. What marriage has to do with being divine or not is a mystery to me.

Actually, the Bible does not say whether Jesus was married or not so it is just as blasphemous to assume he was not married as it is to assume he was.

There is more circumstantial evidence in the Bible that he was married than to support he was not.

For one thing, he was called Rabbi and at that time it was the law that a Rabbi be married. Secondly, at the scene of his first miracle he was responsible for wine at a wedding. The one responsible for beverages would have normally been the groom.

Anyway, this movie is bound to be an interesting point of conversation for a while.

Here is what I would like the group to do during the next week or so. If you see the Da Vinci Code write a brief review and post it to the group. Let us know what kind of impact you think it will have.

I suspect the critics don't like it because it doesn't have a lot of raw emotion and you actually have to pay attention to some intellectual conversation to get the point as the plot progresses.

Ron Howard may not be a great filmmaker, but he usually does a good job.

Jesus Christ was a historical figure of staggering influence, perhaps the most enigmatic and inspirational leader the world has ever seen . . . Understandably, His life was recorded by thousands of followers across the land . . . More than eighty gospels were considered for the New Testament, and yet only a relative few were chosen for inclusion - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John among them . . . The Bible, as we know it today, was collated by the pagan Roman emperor Constantine the Great.
