Less Government

"It's no accident that capitalism has brought with it progress, not merely in production but also in knowledge. Bureaucracy is the death of any achievement."--- Albert Einstein.

When you look at our vast government and the hundreds of billions of dollars it costs, it's hard to find success but easy to find the harm that others have caused. There just aren't many agencies that are really indispensable to the nation's security and well-being. Those should be kept and the fat should be trimmed.

It's honorable to attempt to reduce pain, suffering, and poverty. But it is not realistic to expect that every citizen can be provided the same amounts of good food, comfortable housing, and health care. It is up to the individual to do work.

In short, Liberalism, socialism, and utopianism are a dead end, just look at the former Soviet Union. If you like their system, maybe you should move there.

Washington In Your Face

In a 91-part series of sob stories from the laid off and the disgruntled, The NY Times is in the midst of bemoaning 'the downsizing of America' --- better known as 'the whining of America.' The cause of all the heartache, in the esteemed newspaper of record's view, appears to be heartless corporate chieftains --- as well as capitalism itself.

Americans are moving forward, despite shackles. The shackles I am referring to are not NAFTA, not corporations. They are, instead, the barriers imposed by our own government.

For example, the Endangered Species Act prevents 'disturbing the habitat' of the spotted owl. That has restricted 4.2 million acres of forest from development, leading to the loss of 30,000 lumber-related jobs and the annual loss of 1.1 billion board feet of lumber. This has driven up the cost of houses by at least $4,000 each. In addition, regulators ordered a Kansas City bank to install a Braille keypad on its drive-through automatic teller machine, presumably to aid any blind drivers. The list goes on and on.

Term Limits

On March 29, 1995 the Contract with America suffered its only big setback in the U.S. House of Representatives. The term limits amendment to the Constitution went down to defeat, with 227 'yes' votes to 204 'no' votes.

According to the polls, 80 percent of Americans want term limits. And what was the breakdown of the vote? Over 80 percent of Republicans (82 %) voted for term limits. But, 82 percent of Democrats voted against term limits.

By trying to undermine the will of the American people, Democrats are, in fact, undermining their own political future.

Defense

A strong USA defense brought down the Soviet Union. It was Ronald Reagan--first in a speech at Notre Dame University in May 1981, then his 'Evil Empire' speech of March 1983 - who most eloquently declared communism's imminent demise. Reagan was right.

And even Soviet officials attribute Ronald Reagan's rhetoric and foreign policy to bringing down that 'evil empire.' By Christmas Day, 1990, the Soviet Union ceased to exist. Liberals wished it were other things.

The Strategic Defense Initiative was a decisive factor in brining down the Soviet Union. Former Soviet Foreign Minister Aleksandr Bessmertnykh claimed that SDI helped speed up the fall of the Soviet Union.

Political Correctness

For all intents and purposes, "political correctness" is a far too polite a label to describe the brand of political oppression being imposed on certain kinds of thought.

Let's call it what it is: thought control and "political cleansing." Some liberals believe that their pet theories and beloved philosophical constructs have no legitimate intellectual competition, so they just declare other view points off limits. That's "political cleansing."

Hypocrisy! The left-wing thought police are forever paying lip service to the ideals of free expression, but they are the first to place restrictions on it for those with whom they disagree.

By establishing a new type of crime called a "hate crime", we are giving the left, power over our private thoughts. We know that they know how to reach inside our heads and know precisely what we are thinking at that moment.

How Bill Clinton got Elected

Bill Clinton was elected primarily because he convinced enough Americans that the USA was in dire economic straits and that he would remedy our problems by implementing 'change.' Clinton's scheme was as brilliant as it was deceptive.

Clinton first successfully engineered a wholesale history rewrite of the 1980s in order to demonize Reaganomics; then he wrongly accused President George Bush of continuing the policies of Reaganomics, when Bush hadn't.

Having set up Reaganomics as the straw dog, Clinton was then able to argue, once elected, that he had a mandate to change course from the path of Reaganomics. Bush would still be president if he had stuck with Regan's economic policies.

How the Media Undermines American Democracy

In the old days journalists were keen observers with a good vocabulary. They went out and reported the news. They dug. They made sure the story was clear and accurate and compelling.

Today, reporters are celebrities and they are frequently part of the story. The headliners on CBS, ABC, and NBC do precious little original reporting. That's way below their pay grade.
The good news is that the media's lack of a moral or ethical core has become so obvious to the American people that they are tuning out the so-called mainstream media.

The "Poverty Equals Crime" Myth

Liberals believe that crime is inextricably linked with poverty. In reality, most poor people never resort to crime, and some wealthy people commit evil acts to enrich themselves further.

Harlem, East Los Angeles and the South side of Chicago are not the poorest communities in the United States. According to a new U.S. Bureau of the Census report, the poorest communities are Shannon County, South Dakota, followed by Starr, Texas, and Tunica, Mississippi. Have you ever heard of these residents rioting to protest their living conditions?

Liberals state that many teenagers would rather sell crack for $100 an hour than to flip hamburgers for a minimum wage. Using the same liberal logic, you might think it would make more sense for the average middle-class worker to rob banks rather than work a forty-hour week?

The reason why most people, rich and poor, do not commit crimes because they know it is wrong to do so.

CONSERVATISM
The Driving Force of American Politics

The message we get from the mainstream press is that the Republicans are a mess, that their credibility is over, that they have no business being the majority party... confirming liberals' dreams that the election of 1994 and 1996 were a wild aberration, evidence of temporary insanity among American voters.

My friends, this is wishful thinking defined. All the ideas are on conservative turf. All the solutions to national problems under discussion, all the policies being argued, all the analysis and propositions being contested, are solidly on the right. We are witnessing a dramatic demonstration that conservatism is the only ideas on the national scene.

Conservative ideas are alive and dynamic, the result of a free and intellectually honest vision for the country. As long as conservatism is strong, the future of a strong America is assured.

How to deal with a Liberal Teacher

Some advice to students: be confident. First of all, know that you're on the winning team. Your ideas and beliefs are not odd or extreme. Ask questions. Remember, you are in school to learn. So when your teacher lectures from the liberalism playbook, politely ask questions. Probe for inconsistencies and contradictions.

Know your facts. Evidence refutes liberalism. So if you're planning to do some refuting, know the evidence. Be of good cheer. You attract more people to consider your view and are more persuasive in the long run if you are fun to be around.

Hillary Clinton
Since Hillary Rodham's anointment as co-president, Americans have been treated to some of the silliest, most sanctimonious, arrogant, condescending morality lessons to come out of the Oval Office and the Washington press corps in a long time. With her halo aglow, she has fearlessly castigated the pharmaceuticals industry and excoriated the medical profession.

She is convinced that she alone can save America from two of its most vexing problems (both of which are highly exaggerated and distorted): the health-care "crisis" and the country's spiritual malaise. Hillary groupies in the media are exhibiting their sophistry and embarrassing ignorance when they praise her 'politics of meaning' as if it is some profound revelation.

Thumb through the pages of Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Marx, Bacon, Adam Smith; you name it. You'll see that all of them defend their particular political and/or economic systems foremost on moral grounds. To pretend that what Hillary is saying is something new is an insult. Liberals can get away with treating us as ignorant fools only if we let them.

Key quote, "By publicly parading her liberalism and her plans to foist it on the rest of us, she has become a feminist icon."

Liberalism's Last Gasp

Every day Clinton's Administration is trying to fool the American people in new ways. The President, who vetoed the partial-birth abortion ban, claims he "wants" a complete ban on late-term abortions. The Administration, that signed the Defense of Marriage Act in the dead of night, virtually apologizing to activist constituency groups for doing so, while calling the legislation "gay-baiting," now lists it proudly as a "values" accomplishment. Because the American people have utterly rejected it, liberalism has been forced underground. The reason they have to lie, the reason they have to pretend to be what they're not, is because we've triumphed in the area of ideas. It proves that they know that their entire belief system has been given the thumbs down by the majority. With the evidence, it's now time to declare victory. Conservatism has won. Thoroughly, completely, decisively. Many Democrats talk of smaller government, individual responsibility, crime reduction, family values, and yes, tax relief. Even Bill Clinton thinks he has to portray himself as a conservative, we have won. Liberalism is over.

Education

Many believe our entire public-education establishment is going in exactly the wrong direction. Rather, having a goal of real achievement, the trend seems to be toward reaching some kind of educational parity, to make sure no students feel badly about themselves.

The liberal educational theoreticians tell you that bad grades only serve to discourage underachievers. The primary objective of Outcome-Based Education is to avoid humiliating a student. We should be educating the student first.

Students are passing courses and graduating because of lower requirements, because of this new philosophical belief that no one should be held back. Colleges and universities are finding out that a high-school diploma is meaningless in terms of real achievement.

The liberal school establishment lowers standards, ignores human nature, refuses to reward success and doesn't punish failure.

Feminism

Feminism was established so that unattractive women could have easier access to the mainstream of society. Just look at the history of feminism if you doubt the truth.

Today some militant feminists apparently harbor such animosity for the opposite sex that they want to criminalize the process of courtship---the old fashioned 'chase'. It's interesting; the feminist movement no longer makes pretenses toward old goals such as equality between the sexes.

Many feminists are confusing advances with harassment and confusing harassment with rape. It's a fact... women have it better in America than any place else in the world.

CELEBRATING AMERICAN ACHIEVERS

Dick Morris, former political consultant for the Clinton campaign and acclaimed toe-sucker, was recently greeted as the new "comeback kid" in many newspapers. Clearly unencumbered by shame or a sense of public disgrace, Morris stood before a "Power and Politics in America" class at New York University and began to... lecture with an invited television crew. Turn on the television, read the papers, and what do you find? You see everywhere celebrated the raunchy, the debauched, the dissolute, the depraved. The notorious have become notable. Infamy is chic. The solution to the nation's problems depends on the true American achievers. It's people like you, playing by the rules and celebrating and continuing to remind people of the traditions and institutions that made this country great, who can re-create a society that is great once more. It's only by doing the right thing that this country is going to fix itself and survive.

Sex Education

According to a major study of the effectiveness of sex-education programs for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and a new review for the Centers for Disease Control of all published research on school-based education programs, 'more accurate (sexual) knowledge does not have a measurable impact on sexual behavior.'

New Jersey has school-based sex education. In 1980, 67.6 percent of teenage births were to unmarried mothers. Eleven years later, the figure was 84 percent.

Sex education is not an academic discipline, based on solid research. What evidence exists that school sex education works? There is no evidence that it can, there is no evidence that it has.

Sex Education with parents teaching their kids the difference between right and wrong is most effective, best method. SEX EDUCATION UPDATE: About 5,000 schools are using a new teaching aid to steer teenage girls away from pregnancy. It's a high-tech 'infant simulator' --- in plain language, a doll --- named 'Baby, Think It Over.'

Girls take the $250 baby doll home for a weekend of 'love and nurturing.' The infant simulator is programmed to occasionally cry to signal that it needs feeding, a diaper change, or a bath. By Monday, most girls can't wait to give 'Baby, Think It Over' back, move on to other subjects.

The Myth of the Angry White Male

What has sprung up is a strange kind of thinking... Americans are unhappy with their lot. They are feeling insecure - layoffs and corporate downsizing have made their future uncertain. Stirred up by talk radio, the theory goes; large numbers of formerly sensible people have embraced 'hate' and 'extremism.' Most of these, according to the media, are white guys.

A Washington Post/ABC pre-election poll asked voters if they were angry 'about the way the federal government works.' Four out of five white males said no.

62 percent of white men voted for Republican House candidates (38 percent for Democrats in 1994, a ten-point increase from the 1990 midterm elections). But was this special to their gender? In 1994 white women voted for Republican House candidates by a 55 to 45 percent majority. Significantly, there isn't single article decrying 'angry white females.'

Punishing Achievement

According to the liberals, achievement must be vilified and the rich must be punished. They seem to be uncomfortable about the philosophical underpinnings of capitalism, rugged individualism, and competition. Making a profit isn't unfair and excessive.

Liberals don't believe that market forces, unfettered by government, can possibly effectuate an equitable allocation of resources. According to them, competition and the profit motive are evils to be condemned.

Liberals don't understand the principals of wealth creation: that our economy is not a zero-sum game; that one person's achievement is not necessarily the other person's loss. Someday Liberals may realize that burdensome taxes have a deterrent effect on the production of income and wealth and jobs.

Bill Clinton and Lenin may be the best practitioners of class warfare.

The Ozone

Mankind is not responsible for depleting the ozone layer. The Earth's ecosystem is not fragile, and humans are not capable of destroying it.

There are more acres of forest land in America today than when Columbus discovered the continent in 1492. Mankind is part of nature and not its enemy.

The environmental movement wants Americans panicked and filled with apprehension about the future.

Evidence shows that ozone depletion, if occurring at all, is not doing so at an alarming rate.

The Economy

The record of economic success during the 1980's is clear: 18.6 million new jobs were created, increasing U.S. civilian employment by 20 percent. Only 12 percent of these jobs were in low-paid restaurant and retail areas, while 82 percent were in high-paid technical, managerial and professional areas.

Once Reagan's tax cuts kicked in (fiscal year 1982), the country experienced 92 months of economic growth without a recession. This represented the longest period of sustained peacetime economic growth in American history. America's most successful achievers do pay a higher share of the total tax burden. The top one percent income earners paid 18 percent of the total tax burden in 1981, and paid 25 percent in 1991. The bottom 50 percent of income earners paid only 8 percent of the total tax burden, and paid only 5 percent in 1991.

History shows that tax cuts have always resulted in improved economic growth producing more tax revenue in the treasury.

Ground Zero of American Political Debate

Bipartisanship, Bill Clinton recently told The Washington Post that he wanted to "help flush the poison from the atmosphere," which would be a beautiful thing... though some of us would miss David Bonior's press conferences. On the eve of his second inauguration, Clinton made a failed attempt to declare ideological victory. He said that "the battles of his first term largely settled the debate over the role of government in his favor, clearing the way for a new season of cooperation". The President is very wrong. Even The Washington Post couldn't swallow the President's spin whole: "Yet even as Clinton predicted that Republicans will be more accommodating to his philosophy, his comments in a 55-minute Oval Office interview underscored the extent to which a president who arrived here four years ago with a vastly more expensive and partisan agenda himself has yielded to GOP priorities." That phrase, "yielded to GOP priorities," is just one rare sentence in one news article; in short, historians will record that: Conservatism has reordered every political reality of the day.

ENJOY YOUR LIFE: TURN OFF THE TV

The image of America that comes to us in daily news broadcasts is a grim one, problems (real and faked), heartache, dysfunction and hardship. That is simply the nature of television news: crisis after crisis, a drumbeat of constant negativism. Millions upon millions of people in "real" America are enjoying the good things the nation has to offer have come to feel that their positive experiences are somehow the exception. The vast majority enjoy the best country in the history of the world. As an experiment, try going a month without watching any news. Don't watch the evening news, don't watch local news, don't watch political discussions. You will have a much more positive outlook about yourself and about America!

Tax the Poor!

On his radio show Rush Limbaugh, made a dramatic and innovative proposal.

We must tax the poor. This is not hardhearted and mean. It is axiomatic that if you subsidize an activity or condition you get more of it; if you tax it you get less of it. Obviously, we want to eliminate poverty, and there is the one method that has never been tried: tax it. The poor represent a promising new revenue stream; more money to the Treasury, and the lessening of poverty at the same time.

HOW TO STAY PROSPEROUS & FREE IN THE 21st CENTURY

Americans have always understood that that this nation is unique among nations in the long march of human history, and as we speed into the next century, we seem to be at a crossroads. We are worried that with so many things out of whack; the traditions and institutions that made America great are under attack, standards continue to be lowered, so many minds seem clouded by the fog of liberalism. So let's stay positive; the personal freedoms we still enjoy; the widespread prosperity and bounty unimaginable in any other time and place; the innovations and progress in medicine, technology, communication, science, business, and more; the standard of living never before attained by so many among a nation's citizens...we wonder, will it last? The questions remain. What will ensure that America continues? Can our culture be reclaimed? How can we stay free in the next century while people of other countries have been restricted to pursue prosperity, bounded only by the limits of his or her imagination? Besides, only a conservative would ask how we can STAY prosperous and free in the 21st century. A liberal would whine that only a few are prosperous--the evil rich who have somehow gotten rich off the backs of the poor. Liberals don't notice, or understand freedom. They see victims; the oppressed, the downtrodden, and the have-nots. America has had the original ideas of self-government and self-reliance; for which we must thank our Founding Fathers. Your talents, your muscle, your hearts, and your dreams will help America stay prosperous and free in the 21st century!

Ronald Reagan

Liberals correctly perceive the Reagan record as their most dangerous enemy. Why? Because what happened during the 1980s --- prosperity at home (the longest period of peacetime growth in this nation's history, strength abroad --- directly contradicts every liberal belief.

Bill Clinton has confused many about the 1980s and the Reagan legacy. His patently false mantra states, "The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. The rich didn't pay their fair share, and etc." The 1980s have been intentionally mischaracterized by slick liberal politicians with the complicity of the mainstream media. In point of fact, the image of Ronald Reagan, the man responsible for shaping that decade, should be carved into Mount Rushmore, minted into coins, and emblazoned in a place of honor in every schoolchild's history text as a constant reminder of this great man's contributions to world freedom, national pride, and individual prosperity.

With the truth, the term 'Reaganomics' will be used only as a term of endearment and respect.

Clinton vs. Clinton!

Bill Clinton is in many ways his own worst enemy.

ON TAXES:

"I know this economic plan is ambitious, but I honestly believe it is necessary for the continued greatness of the United States. And I think it is paid for fairly, first by cutting Government, then by asking more Americans to contribute today so that all of us can prosper tomorrow." President Clinton, to a joint session of Congress, February 17, 1993.

"I know this thing is a turkey."--- President Clinton to his advisers, describing his first budget, which included a $265 billion tax increase, quoted in The Agenda, by Bob Woodward.

ON THE BUDGET:
"I think most of us learned some time ago that if you don't like the President's position on a particular issue, you simply need to wait a few weeks. If you can follow this White House on the budget, you are a whole lot smarter than I am." ---Rep. David Obey (D, WI), quoted in The New York Times, June 14, 1995.

"Well, I think we could reach it in seven years. I think we could reach it in eight years. I think we could reach it in nine years." ---President Clinton, White House press conference, October 19, 1995.

ON "CHANGE"

"I was not elected to produce a pile of vetoes." ---President Clinton, in a press conference, April 18, 1995.

"Warming to the fight, President Clinton flung out multiple veto threats" ---AP, August 1, 1995.

Death and Taxes!

Liberals need new revenue to spend. In Colma, a suburb of San Francisco, California there's a proposal pending to tax... the dead. If proponents get their way, grave sites will be taxed $5 dollars---per grave, per year---for eternity. In Colma the dead outnumber the living by a ratio of roughly 1000-to-1, including such notables as Wyatt Earp, Levi Strauss, and William Randolph Hearst. And they, apparently, haven't paid their fair share. For liberals, when it comes to taxes... nothing is sacred.

Al Gore

Vice-President Al Gore wrote a book in which he claimed that the automobile is the gravest threat the Earth has ever faced. This man, a mere heartbeat away from the White House, is an environmentalist wacko.

Gore is a bona fide tree-hugging, spotted owl-loving, radical doomsday prophet who carries water for Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, and every other environmental fringe lobby. In only a few years, Gore has "grown" in Washington from what appeared to be a pro-life moderate to an ultra-liberal crusader who makes Ted Kennedy look like a middle-of-the-roader.

Al Gore voted against both Reagan budget cuts and his tax cuts. In the Senate he has opposed the balanced-budget amendment, a line-item veto for the president. In 1990, he earned the National Taxpayers Union's rating as the biggest spender.

* * * * * AL GORE UPDATE: As Watchdog of the Planet, by 2001, Al Gore wants to bring scientists and private interest groups together with federal agencies to evaluate environmental laws... and issue a "report card." All our ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and fisheries would be graded. By the year 2001, your backyard might be considered a wetland in need of protection. Don't forget that in his book, Earth in the Lurch, Mr. Gore asserts that the single greatest threat is the internal combustion engine. Wake up America, your Vice-President wants to take away your car.

Minimum Wage

Every credible study on the impact of the minimum wage shows that each and every time it's increased, a certain percentage of jobs are bound to be eliminated. A 1988 Congressional Budget Office study, for instance, projected that a proposed increase at that time would result in the loss of 500,000 jobs.

Minimum-wage jobs are entry-level positions, most often filled by teenagers. By eliminating even a percentage of these positions, we are cutting out the only way inexperienced young people can get their foot in the door of the job market.

Many minimum-wage employees earn much more than their base salary. Waiters and waitresses, for instance, often receive far more money in gratuities than they do in salary. Many minimum-wage servers in fine restaurants earn up to $40,000 a year.

Each time you increase the Minimum Wage, the hardest hit are the poor.

Welfare

The 1964 Economic Report of the President stated, "The conquest of poverty is well within our power." President Lyndon B. Johnson called for a "Great Society: a society of success without squalor, beauty without barrenness, works of genius without wretchedness of poverty."

LBJ declared that, "we are not content to accept the endless growth of relief rolls or welfare rolls," and that "in the future, as in the past, this investment will return its cost many fold to our entire economy." It didn't work.

Between 1965 and 1994 welfare spending has cost the taxpayers $5.4 trillion in constant 1993 dollars. The War on Poverty has cost us 70% more than the total price tag for defeating both Germany and Japan in World War II, after adjusting for inflation.

Many believe that Welfare has destroyed millions of families and cost a huge portion of our national wealth in the process.

2. Thou shalt not make any graven image out of any substances which cannot be recycled.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of liberals in criticism, including feminists, racial minorities, or any person who thinks he is a victim of America.
4. Remember the anniversaries of Roe vs Wade and Anita Hill's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and keep them holy.
5. Honor thy mother. If she is dysfunctional, it is thy father's fault.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Unless thou aspirest to high political office, useth a condom, or cannot help it.
8. Thou shalt not steal. Unless thou art disadvantaged or upset with a jury verdict.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Unless thou art discussing the history of the 1980's, art campaigning, or can afford good legal counsel in the event that thou art discovered.
10. Thou shalt not covet. Unless thou art the victim of gender-related oppression or institutional racism, or art still angry with Reagan's tax cuts.
