The Highest Service

Back to the question that every true seeker sooner or later deals with: "How can I best serve?"

Those who are not yet ready for true service ask a different question. He who is yet in the ego will ask: "What can I do that appears to be service but will draw the most attention toward me and give me the recognition that I deserve?" Of course they will not vocalize these words to themselves, but such is the language of the heart of many.

The true server echoes the words of Spock: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

As the aspirant nears discipleship he or she will acquire a great desire to serve to the best and highest of his ability, but he finds that the only ones with an exact answer of what to do seems to be the "false prophets" of the world. These false teachers have all kinds of plans for his willing heart, but do not satisfy the soul.

What to do. The server feels a little like Dave who had to make a random choice in order to reach heaven or hell, for no specific knowledge seems to come down the pipeline with his marching orders.

If the seeker is not sure of the path to take he can do one of two things: (1) Nothing, like the two who stayed behind in the parable or (2) make a DECISION and go with it.

"But," asks the seeker, "what if my DECISION is wrong?"

This worry often produces a paralysis. At this point it is best to keep one of my favorite quotes in mind: "Indecision is worse than the wrong decision."

Could this statement really be true? Yes, as long as the decisions are made with a pure heart.

If you are sincere and make the wrong decision then it will only be a short while before you discover your mistakes and start correcting them. Then as you progress and correct it will only be a short while before you pass by those who did not act at all because of fear.

In the parable it seemed as if Dave made the worst of all decisions, but he proceeded forward with sincerity, making corrections as he could. Then it was not long before he finished his round of evolution and proceeded on toward a greater unknown before the others in his group.

How can you best serve? Look at the landscape of the work that needs done and make the best DECISION you can about the part that you will play and move forward with all your strength. If you have a degree of soul contact listen to the inner voice as you work. If you are working in the right direction you will sense a feeling of approval from your Higher Self. If you have chosen incorrectly you will feel conflict within yourself. Maybe you have chosen something that seems holy and good, but still you feel unsettled within. If you perceive that you are doing something wrong, then change direction for a while and see how you now feel. If you then feel a sense of rightness and peace the change was in the right direction. You must examine what you were doing and compare it with your new direction and analyze why the Higher Powers are guiding you on this new path.

Eventually, as an accepted disciple, you will tune in to the PURPOSE of God as it applies to this little planet and have a sense as to your part in its application.

You may receive inspiration, knowledge and some guidance, but your own power of discernment and DECISION will always play a large part in how you will apply yourself.

We could write a book on this important subject, but to sum it up in a nutshell we could give this advice:

Choose - Contemplate - Work like hell.

Now lets go to Tracy's question to God.

"I guess right now I'd probably ask God exactly what it is that I have done (in past lives perhaps, or this one) that is making this life so unbearably difficult."

It would be nice to just be given the raw facts about why things that happen to us come upon us as they do. Since few of us ever get the black and white answers to this we need to look at the principle(s) that will give us some light.

If we cannot remember what our past lives were or what negative things we have done to generate Karma then how could we possibly find out what harmful past deeds we are presently paying off and how to accomplish this.

Then if we discover that we do have a large dept to pay how can we accelerate the payment of that debt so we can free our hands for greater service?
