Postings

My views on posting are that either extreme would be wrong for us. If we start posting interesting but unrelated material, more than teachings, it will tend to throw us off track and be discouraging to new members. On the other hand, we do not want to be a sterile place and a few interesting stores, notes, facts add flavor to the list. The story of the angel girl is a good example.

I would suggest we police ourselves with these guidelines:

1. Avoid long posts unrelated to the topic. If you have something you think is a "must read" send it to Rick first by E-mail for his opinion. If he says yes, then go ahead and post it. If he says no, then you can e-mail it to members you are close to or perhaps a special list created for this purpose.

2. If more than one-third of the posts seem to be unrelated to the teachings avoid posting the non-related item until there is a lull.

3. When commenting on another post, only quote what is pertinent. If you quote something like 50 - 100 or 200 lines as one body it causes an inconvenience to members, especially if they are printing out the postings. If you are doing this by accident contact Rick about correcting the problem and he'll tell you how.

If, therefore, one suspects I am motivated by ego and decides to look for evidence of that conclusion he will find his evidence. The evidence may be a reflection of his own ego, but he will find it nevertheless. The Good, The Beautiful and the True, July 17, 2000
