Chapter Twenty-Nine -- The Sign of the Son of Man

The approximate time for the appearance of the Kingdom of God was given by Jesus:

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened (or "obscure") , and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken." (Matthew 24:29)

Men have been perplexed by this scripture for two thousand years and every time there has been an eclipse, or the moon is obscured, or we have a meteor shower, there are those who arise and tell us that Jesus is coming.

The key to the meaning of the verse is in the Greek word for "heaven" which is OURANOS. The element Uranium was named after this. For proof one merely has to check any good dictionary and it will trace Uranium to OURANOS.

What happens when the powers of Uranium are shaken?

The atomic bomb.

Now we can read the verse in a totally different light:

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days (the defeat of Hitler) shall the sun be darkened (the blast is so bright it obscures the sun), and the moon shall not give her light (a victim cannot even see the moon), and the stars shall fall from heaven (stars shall fly from Uranium -- it will be very sensational and bright), and the powers of heaven (uranium) shall be shaken" (how the atomic blast works -- shaking or splitting the Uranium atom). (Matthew 24:29)

Now we can understand the mystery of the next verse:

"And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven (The atomic bomb was the sign that the coming of Christ is sure and fairly soon.):  and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matthew 24:30)

Many read this verse and think that it means that people will see Jesus coming and mourn because of their sins, but notice it says "all" the tribes (Greek: "races") shall mourn. Surely someone must be happy to see Jesus appear?

The sign is not Jesus at all for his appearance will bring happiness and peace to many, but the prophecy was fulfilled to the letter when the atomic blast went off in Hiroshima. All the races of the entire earth "mourned" and began to fear that the fate of Hiroshima may eventually be their own.

A more accurate description of the atomic bomb cannot be given than:  "clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matthew 24:30)

All this sounds like good correspondence, but one is inclined to ask:  "Why is a dreadful thing like the atomic bomb called the sign of the Son of man? Was he not the Prince of Peace?"

The answer:  The splitting of the atom and the releasing of the pure energy of Spirit is a perfect correspondence to the resurrection of Christ. The life force of the atom was released to enter the way of higher evolution just as the tomb of the Christ burst opened and released the Son of God. The splitting of the tomb of material matter is the one sure sign that the Son of man is the Son of God, and the knowledge given to man to split the tomb of the atom is the greatest scientific revelation given to man to date. It is a sign that we are not far from overcoming death as Christ did.

The power of the atom does not have to be a frightening thing if it is understood and used by Israelites. Many fairly intelligent people are against any use of atomic power, but the time will come when it will be used wisely for the benefit of mankind. In addition, many other sources of energy will be opened up for us in the New Age including the application of the theories of Nicola Tesla.

The next verse has the gathering message. We will repeat it again:

"And he shall send his angels (messengers) with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other... This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." (Matthew 24:31-34)

The generation that saw the first atomic bomb and will see the beginning of the gathering of the elect (those who choose, or Israel), and shall not all pass away until the Christ shall again manifest on the earth.

There have been many methods used for predicting the return of Christ, and hundreds of dates set. All of them, have been wrong. Some time ago I read about a small sect in Arizona who had arrived at the date and they sold all their belongings and went up on a hill and waited. Of course, Jesus did not swoop them up as expected. After this, their undaunted leader discovered a three day error in his calculations and they waited again, but to no avail. But were they discouraged? Never! They are still expecting Jesus to come after them at any minute. The Seventh-Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and many others have set dates for his appearance and they have all failed.

On the other hand, when he does appear, he will have to pick a certain day, and what if, by accident, some religious group happened to pick at or around that day for their prophecy? Would the Christ decide to take up his abode with them and no one else because they chose the lucky day? Most likely, Christ would find them so unwilling to learn and unenlightened he would ignore them, if at all possible.

For the past century many have believed that Christ would come around the year 2000.

The reasoning behind this date is that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh, and the scriptures say that a day is equal to a thousand years. (2 Peter 3:8)  According to the Bible, Jesus came 4,029 years after Adam. However, most Christians use 4,000 even. Thus they figured that the day of rest, the thousand years of peace, the millennium, will begin at about 2,000.

2000 AD has been the most popular, and looked for date for his coming that has ever been presented to public consciousness, even more so than was 1000 AD -- a thousand years ago.

As we now know Christ did not return in the year 2000, and it is not likely he will return in the immediate years following. What is possible is that an Antichrist will appear first as an externalization of the expectations and thoughtforms of the masses. For the image of Christ in the mind of the average man resembles more the Antichrist, than the true one. We may or may not have another Hitler type antichrist, but we can assuredly predict several self proclaimed quasi spiritual ones.

Even the seventh thousand year correspondence theory does not square with the scriptures, for an important point overlooked is that God did not rest at the beginning of the seventh day.

After the sixth day was over and the seventh began it is written:

"And on the seventh day GOD ENDED HIS WORK which he had made; and he rested on the Seventh. Day (after he ended his work on the seventh day) from all his work which he had made." (Genesis 2:2)

Chapter Two goes on to tell us the things God did when he "ended his work" on the seventh day. He made the body of man (Verse 7), he planted a garden (Verse 8), he made the bodies of the animals (Verse 19), and he made Eve (Verse 22). All this was the "end" of his work on the "seventh day." After he ended his work, then he rested.

Just as God prepared a bride for Adam as his last work on the seventh day before he rested and the two were to be "one flesh" (Genesis 2:24); even so will the bride (gathered Israel) be the last work performed by God before the bridegroom (Christ) will come. This will be accomplished in the beginning of what Christians call the "seventh thousand years."

One could intuitively and logically set the date of his coming as at a time when those who were born in 1945 (the time of the first public atomic blast) are in their old age: between 2025-2035. But remember that if the freewill of man is not exercised as it should be, and as expected, the time of his appearance could be shifted. However, this is not likely. His presence can only be delayed so long and if our hearts are not rightly set on the promises made to the fathers his coming will "smite the earth with a curse." (Malachi 4:6)

"Curse" here comes from the Hebrew CHEREM which implies "utter destruction" or "extermination."

If the world does not prepare the hearts to accept the coming of the entity who is Christ and learn to live in peace with one another, then all we will receive is the physical externalization of the Sign of the Son of Man. As we all know, a full scale nuclear war could bring the "utter destruction" that was prophesied.

We indeed live at a crisis point in planetary history.
